Why is my baby making me feel so sick?

Hi to all mothers, i am 7 weeks into my first pregnancy and the nausea i have had for the past 2 days has completely floored me, nearly literally yesterday, was all hot, blurred vision, thought i was going to pass out and was then sick. Other than that, it is just nausea and no actual vomiting. This being said, i don't know how im going to make it to work tomorrow, my manager knows that I'm pregnant but she is very happy when people are sick, the company are quite sacking-happy at the moment too, i dont need the extra stress, where do i stand with taking sick days? A x

Hi there

No one can fire you for being ill. Anyone can self-certificate for up to 5 days. It might be a good idea to see your GP as they can prescribe some anti-sickness medicine that may help you. Then if they feel you need more time off, they can give you a doctors certificate. It might be a could idea to call the charity Pregnancy Sickness Support and someone on their helpline will be able to give you some advice: pregnancysicknesssupport.or...

I hope this helps

Best wishes

Katherine

Hi there

If you are having sexual intercourse and don't want to get pregnant I would suggest you use some form of contraception. This is a useful page on the different methods that are available: bpas.org/more-services-info...

Best wishes

Frozen lolly pops. Seriously they saved me with my 3rd pregnancy. They keep your fluids up but because you have to suck them they make you less sick. I couldn't even keep water down. I had hyperemeses gravidarum which is a clinical name for severe moring sickness. It lasted until day i gave birth and I was in and out of hospital during pregnancy. I am betting you will recover soon as sickness usually only goes in the 2nd term. Also if you begin to feel dizzy (like you have )and out of it go to your GP as they can test your ketone levels which shows if you are dehydrated or not. Sickness is horrible and I hope you feel better soon. If you are genuinely ill your employer cannot do anything if your doctor writes you a sick note. You have to make sure your health is ok, simple.

Thanks Katie, i too have been eating frozen ice lollies! The sickness has gone abit now, i have bad days and bad moments in the days but it is easing! I have my first scan next week, cant wait. It will also become clear to those horrible individuals who have accused me of skiving from work!

Good luck with the scan. It will be amazing. Nomatter how bad the pregnancy is, its all worth it once you have your baby in your arms. Ignore negative people it is stress you do not need.
