Aledronic light headed

I have been taking Aledronic Acid for just over 3 years due to - 4 lumber spine. I take as directed, and like so many get some side effects., muscle pain, nausea. However, I always feel lightheaded and my chest feels as if it has a tightness. I do take a daily PPI for a hiatus hernia. Does anyone have similar. I know I should continue with this medication, but I have never felt quite right since taking it.

Have you read the varying opinions of AA on here? It might help you to come to a decision about continuing with it. After my diagnosis I did some investigation and subsequently chose not to take it but to use supplements (Vit D, magnesium, boron, vit k2-7) and sufficient calcium in my diet.

Thanks for your reply. I have read articles on AA ( side effects ) and patient reviews, which all appear anti this medicine. I have a balanced diet, take vit D , B12, K2 and collagen. I just worry whether diet alone, plus exercise is enough. Could I ask whether you have osteoporosis or osteopenia?

I have osteoporosis. I had a DEXA some years ago and later found out I have scoliosis which meant the result could not be accurate. I should have been advised of that at the time and should also have had a test for hyperparathyroidism as well which was not offered. I later for out I had that which meant no medication would have helped anyway until the offending gland was surgically removed.

Could you please tell me what brand of boron you take, and also how much? I’m flying blind here and can only hope that I am doing enough to prevent any more wedge fractures.

I take Nutrality 3mg available on Amazon. I believe that is the optimum dose.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately they don’t ship to Australia. That’s ok, I’ll find another brand. I was unsure of how much to take, thanks again.

I also live in Australia. I usually order all supplements I can't buy over the counter here from iHerb. I buy NOW Foods boron 3mg x 250 capsules which has a very high rating.

Thanks for your reply, it’s appreciated. Do you still take the strontium citrate?

No. I've been having ongoing digestive issues and wanted to eliminate the SC as a cause. I will most likely reconsider SC once my digestive issues get sorted but, in the meantime, I'm mostly following the COMB protocol plus boron and zinc.

Good morning,

Hakalab has Boron at 75 mg which I take and have for over a year to supplement my D3, and MK7. You can cut it in half as the tablet is scored. I did Prolia for 3 injections with terrible side effects, now had to do the Zoledonic Acid once a year infusion.

Here is a youtube you might want to watch. You will have to search.

That's a massive amount of boron! The recommended maximum dose is 20mg, with renal impairment listed as a serious potential side effect from higher doses. I've also read that the main benefits are from the first 3mg.

NICE guidance, which you may want to review, says there is no evidence that AA is effective after 3 years. Perhaps you may want to discuss a break with your GP?

I took AA for only a few months. Like you, I have an hiatus hernia. The acid damaged my oesophagus!!! Since I have a yearly infusion of zoledronic acid, helps my bones and I have had no side effects.

I wish you could be on teriparadin for longer than just 18-24 months.

Sometimes it can be difficult when taking medications to determine the culprit when other symptoms present themselves.

For yourself you seem to have been able to work out what has come as side effects from taking the treatment.

If you are experiencing tightness and chest pain and can’t put it down to the start of your treatment perhaps you would be best having it checked out.

I have had a hiatus hernia for years and know that it can cause chest pain and often it can be quite severe. ( but any new symptom concerning the chest the dr always likes to check out)

It may be a good idea to discuss your treatment because usually after 3 years you would have a drug holiday. However in some patients this is extended beyond the three years depending on the individual’s circumstances.

It certainly would be worth having a talk about yearly infusions because given your history of a hiatus hernia it is surprising you were not recommended for it in the beginning.

It is quite obvious you value the health of your bones and have turned a deaf ear to the negative reviews

I hope you find relief from your symptoms and are able to be offered treat by infusion for the future. x

Just like Errp82, I took AA for a year and it damaged my esophagus. I have had the AA infusion for two years in a row and will do the third in a couple of weeks. I had only mild side effects for a day or so. My numbers have improved. I recommend you ask about doing the infusion rather than taking this orally. Good luck!
