As I have said before I have start taking Risedronate last June. As I´m only 68 😂, I wonder what shall I take after or nor take, as we know that AA is prescribed for 2-3 year( if I´m correct).
For how long some of you, are taking osteo medicine? Does it afect other organs like kidney, as the years goes by? PS: English is not my mother language, so I apologise for any mistake.
Thanks a lot

There are many things that can affect how a patient goes forward with treatments.
Your Doctor or Consultant are able to tell from blood tests and Dexa scans if treatments are working to improve bone density.
Bisphosphonates are usually given for 3 years and followed by a drug holiday, but people with severe Osteoporosis and multiple fractures can be treated for much longer ( even for life in some cases at the discretion of the Consultant).
If you can go onto the ROS website you will find all the information you need about the different treatments.
Consultants are very cautious before starting a patient on treatment and will arrange all the necessary blood tests prior to a patient starting any treatment to rule out any possible complications.
I took various medicines for 18 years the. Had a break . It took that long together to the osteopenia stage. Now I am in medication’s n again. I have infusions now as my bowels were slightly affected by one medication which is no longer used. I am a very healthy 79 year old who reaches line dancing twice a week so keep exercising as well. That’s just as I’m as the medication
Hi I've been on Risedronate since march. I'm only 61. My consultant told me I'd be taking it for 5 years then probably have a break from medication, then start again. I should have a Dexa scan after 3 years. Unfortunatly all medications have side effects, we have to compare them to the good that they do for our bones.
