I’ve been using Troo K2-Mk 7 for a long time. I take between 1000 and 3000 mcg vitamin D3 daily - depending on what my D3 levels are like. I test regularly.

I have no idea how good or bad they are to be honest, it’s like everything else with OP - I’m not sure how you know if they are working - you’ve just got to do what you think is best and have faith.

Thank you. I remember now that I have ordered from them in the past so have just placed an order with them again. :)

What I've read about K2 is it's best to get a brand which gets the natto (fermented soy) from a non-GMO source. There may be different forms which are easier or harder to absorb. Mine happen to be capsules because that's all I've seen available locally, but if you can get gelcaps that might be better, K2 being one of the fat-absorbable vitamins. I've also heard it's available as a liquid, in spray or drops form.

hi - I use Viridian k2 & also for my calcium etc. It’s a natural brand & have used it for years. Good luck with this.

Me too! It’s made from organic natto, sposed to be best source of Mk7 K2, sometimes a spoon of coconut oil for fat to help the absorb better, who knows if it helps!?

I use the Better You K2 spray.

Thank you. I shall make a note of that. I have never used K2 in spray form before. :)

It’s nice and easy! I’ve used it for years. It is the K2mk7 which is required.

Hi Kaarina - I see you are from the UK as am I, I get the Life Extension Super K either directly from Life Extension in the UK link or from iHerb.com depending on which is best value at the time of ordering. I've been taking K2-MK7 for the past 16 years.

I use Vitamaze K2 liquid. You can get it from Amazon (UK). It's MK7 all-trans in olive oil. No excipients. I like that it's just olive oil the K2 and nothing else. I make sure I take it with a main meal for better absorption.

Thank you so much. It is good to know what others take. Hope this thread helps others too. :)

I use this one - Nature's Best K2mk7, 90mcg. It's best not to take K2 and D3 at the same time, as they compete for absorption. I take my D3 (also Nature's Best) in the morning and K2 in the evening.

Thank you very much. Another member who chooses Nature's Best. :) I used to take K2 and D3 together but after reading on here it is best to take them separately, I have done so for quite some time. :)

Hmmm, I’ve read to take them together, which is what I’ve been doing. Confused……

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply to KatVin

When it comes to vitamins, unless there is a definite reason to take them separately, I make the assumption that in the real world we'd be getting enough in our food, and foods contain a variety of vitamins. Also, when it comes to Vitamin D, first of all in the real world we'd get it mostly from sunlight, storing whatever the precursor of D is in our body, and then that body would activate the vitamin as we needed it. A quick google indicates the consensus is to take these two vitamins together. I do, but I take K2 twice a day (total of 200 mcg per day) and D3 every two days (because my D runs high).

Vit D and K2 interact with each other, but D has a long half-life (stays in the blood a long time), so will be available to the K2 if taken separately. Both need fat for absorption, so important to make sure there's sufficient fat in diet to a sorb them both at the same time. I believe there's some evidence that more is absorbed if taken at different meals.

I think it's better to take them together.

Solgar Vit K2-MK7 capsules made from Natto (supposed to be the best source of K2).

I have read that MK7 has a longer half-life in the body, but MK4 only will reduce fracture risk. It sounds like most of you supplement with MK7. Does anyone have any studies or test statistics on which is the better form? Both are derivatives from fermented soy.

On the other hand:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

"MK-7 has higher efficacy due to its higher bioavailability and longer half-life than other vitamin K homologs. As vitamin K1, MK-4, and MK-7 have distinct bioactivities, their RDIs should be established based on their relative activities. MK-7 increases bone mineral density and promotes bone quality and strength. Collagen production, and thus, bone quality may be affected by MK-7 or MK-4 converted from MK-7."

I’ve been taking a generic brand of K2-Mk7, but I didn’t consider whether or not it was non-GMO. I just checked and it isn’t, so in the future I’ll be getting a brand that is.

BTW, here’s an informative article about foods that have K2: doctorkiltz.com/vitamin-k2-...

According to the article, here’s one way to get your daily dose of K2 without having to take a supplement: “The yolks of 2 pastured eggs will give you about 120 mcg of K2, or 100% of your DV. But beware that eggs whites have very little K2–yolks provide 30 times more K2 than the whites. Eggs from pasture-raised chickens have 20% more K2 than conventional eggs from caged, grain-fed chickens.”

Kaarina profile image
Kaarina in reply to Texanna

Thank you Rexanna for your reply. Interesting about the egg yolks. :)

Met00 profile image
Met00 in reply to Texanna

It's K2-MK4 in egg yolks, for which the recommended amount is 45mg, ie 45000mcg. Some suggest 1-2mg may be enough, but even that, at 1000-2000mcg, is considerably more than you'd get from a couple of egg yolks. It's with K2-MK7 that 120mcg would be enough.

Texanna

Here’s what I found: Results from research studies using MK4 suggest effective dose levels of MK4 be 45mg per day – but taken as 15 mg three times a day.

The video is mostly about K1. K2 isn't believed to be involved in blood clotting. The Japanese prescribe K2 for osteoporosis, so there must be sufficient evidence for its effectiveness.
