what to expect

I have been under endocrine for 3 years since my first fracture. I have received little support other than the odd infusion. There was a 10 month gap this year where I was left with no medication. Unsurprisingly I have suffered two further fractures. I am considering asking to be transferred to rheumatology. But don't know if there’s more support with that department. I live in the Bournemouth area if anyone on here has experience there. But otherwise I'd be grateful to hear what others have been offered or experienced. Thanks.

Is it a zoledronic acid infusion you've had? If so, it's usual practice to have one every 12 months for 3 years, sometimes longer. Most people are under a GP and many of us are never seen, simply issued with repeat prescriptions if we're taking medication, or ignored if not! Those under a rheumatologist are usually only seen once a year.

I’ll second that. I last saw my rheumatologist (at my request) in 2021. I should have been seen in 2022 but haven’t been.

I have never spoken to a GP about my osteoporosis. I used to get my AA from my previous doctor but since I changed surgery I haven’t discussed my osteoporosis or the fact I no longer take AA with anyone other than the Rheims back in 2021- he didn’t approve and I came under a lot of pressure to have infusions.

I’m not sure there is much difference between endos and rheumatologists.

Hi! I have to keep my eye on when my blood test is due and my Denosumab a month after. Can you not chase them up when you know you are due to have your meds. I only went a couple of weeks between mine. My Vitamin D was low so they had to get that up before I could have the infusion. I had four more fractures because of the wait. It’s important that you keep a check on when you are due.
