I think I fractured more endplates while just walking around my home or stupidly walking at a snail pace and so I bought a full front and back body brace with Velcro clips in front and 8 metal bars in hopes that it will prevent more fractures. It is comfortable and not too restricting at all .
Since my last post where I was walking slowly every day outside to now where I can't walk at all! Never thought I would ever be in this situation. My legs and spine did hurt while walking but I kept at it . Perhaps not a good idea. My legs and spine hurts all the time even while resting ,however, it seems when lying down to sleep ,during the night that I experienced the worse pain ever every night and considered going to ER. I evaluated and I think walking makes the fractures and osteo worse and so for 3 days I have not went for a walk and the pain has been a lot less. but, how does a person evaluate the level of pain from one day to the next when in pain 24/7? Perhaps walking with fractures is not a good idea until I start the osteo meds to help heal the spine?
Still waiting on approval for Romosozumab meds as it is a process here in Canada that is lengthy.

oh yes, density scan done 3 yrs ago and showed -4 in most of the body, but I didn't take any meds as hoped I could conquer with weight bearing walking and vitamins. Always ate well, no junk food at all. March 2024 CT scan showed 5 osteoporosis sclerosis endplate fractures in all L joints in spine and 3 herniated disks all in lower back. In Canada can only get a density scan every 3 yrs only. So, waiting for one, but wait list is a yr.
So, my GP has went ahead and prescribed " Romosozumab" , and it was approved by federal and provincial government but they wont cover the cost which are $800 a month.
So I phoned the manufacturer and we had a discussion and hopefully they will cover me in a compassionate plan.
Just waiting to see what they can do for me. I've had 4 cancers in 8 yrs and now lymphoma in the spine so I am a great candidate to see if this drug will help at all.
yes, leukemia /lymphoma in spine which is probably causing the fractures. On treatment for last 7 months and that treatment has taken away the cancer that was in the tailbone and sacral. So treatment is working. I had stomach cancer 4 yrs ago so oral meds don't work very well without stomach and duodenum, anyways, was just wanting people to know about the full body brace that works well.
Thanks for your questions which are very thoughtful. Yes, I take vit D, lots . .
Gosh you are going through it, feel for you! Do hope you can get some relief/ treatment that will help soon. I do think aggravating an injury is going to make it worse by pushing it. I move little and often with 6 vertebral # s plus other naughties, pain is still a constant but less when I don't overdo it.
So very sorry to hear about all you're going through. Thanks for the info on the brace. I live in NS and have had two bdx (one per year). I have 9 vertebral fractures and also think I've either fractured a rib or really pulled a muscle. Not sure how. Just as I make headway with walking, something always seems to happen. All you have to do is breathe the wrong way and risk a fracture. Walking with a rollator right now, or was. The new pain is excrutiating. Hurts to breathe. I had an xray done yesterday. Should be interesting. I had considered a brace, but Osteo Specialist says if a bra hurts, a brace would be much, much worse. Hugs to you.
I feel for you. Oh, my. you seem to be like me. Do you take any osteo meds? I can say with confidence for me that the brace does help a lot when I move about. It does not hurt to wear and it keeps my spine secure and tight or as lose as you want using Velcro straps. This brace is a full body brace not like bra straps . removal front panel also. But, I bought this one because I still suffer from PHN-shingles on my back and chest from 4 yrs ago and I can't wear a bra as that rubs. This brace sits high under the arm but not rubbing. Its gray in color. removal front panel. Its made by "furlove" has 9 metal steel plates, easy Velcro closing , removal air bag to pump up and down near the back. Called TLSO SPINAL BRACE. by "furlove" Had to pay duty as comes from US. $300 Hard to find on amazon as others crop up.
My GP thought it was a great idea. and I'll do as I want anyways. they don't know the pain we go through. and this relieves the pain, I can't send a link, but if you think of buying it, perhaps we can talk privately if your comfortable. I live on Vancouver island BC and 70 yrs old woman .
I had a zoledronic acid infusion last October. Hoping this has kicked in and I've pulled a muscle and not another fracture. Lots of D3, K2, Calcium in diet. I'll save this post and think about the brace. Until a few days ago things were headed in the right direction. Scheduled to have the other cataract done May 23. At some point gall bladder will need something, if I ever hear back from the surgeon. Lol. Never a dull moment eh! Thanks so much for all the useful info.
yeh with mum Mum, i just reckon that going about her day is enough exercise and movement, and if you're recovering from injury, all the more need to rest ..?
my Mum recovered from a vertebral injury,
went to physio, and seemed to get another injury soon after that,
related to the movements, or the bumps on the road, or both,
i just reckon that exercise should suit the person, and the situation,
and not be done as though you're an elite athlete recovering from a sports injury - it's different!
hi there, yes, your correct. and I had a laugh after your last sentence. Thanks for that. We are always told to keep on moving, keep on walking but I guess with fractures and 3 herniated disks I think happened from the fractures are enough to stop for quite a while. Thanks for listening and responding. it helped.
