I had a zolendronic acid infusion a week ago. Two days ago my back started hurting. And today it feels like I might have sustained another fracture. Although I probably have, I have read a side effect is bone/muscle pain and I wonder if anyone has experience after the infusion. I have full mobility but the back pain is awful.

zolendronic Acid
That’s terrible! Is the treatment causing this? If so, why is the cure or so called cure so damaging?!
please do not worry the aches and pains are normal the bone pain after was something I wasn’t warned about and it was awful it lasts a good few weeks but I does go. I remember not having any aches and pain before but after the infusion I could feel my tail bone as I remember saying I didn’t even know I had a tail bone till the infusion and my legs felt like wet wellingtons it was hard to walk very far and I was exhausted it wiped me out but it does wear off they just fail to mention this to patients but keep calm it’s just the infusion doing it’s job and getting to the bones. It does usually hurt more in your weakest areas my back and hips were the worst xx I hope this helps ease your worries as it’s completely normal
thank you so much for this reply. So now I keep my fingers crossed it's just the infusion. And yes my thoracic area is really painful and that's where I've had my fractures before. And a perfect way to describe my legs too. Thanks again.
Also had this infusion 2 weeks ago. Because I have 8 fractures it's difficult to distinguish between regular excruciating pain and new pain, although pain has really upscaled the last couple of days. Hoping it's not a new fracture, but that's what it feels like. Possibly from the infusion, I'm just not sure. Waiting for a MRI to determine which vertebrae need vertebroplasties next. Hugs to you.
Hi Plilippa So sorry to hear that you are suffering. It is alarming to think that this could be a side effect but no one thinks to mention it! I hope you improve over the next few weeks🤞It would be so helpful if you were able to post again sometime and tell everyone about your progress. Many thanks for the insight-I might have to go there one day! Best wishes.
I imagine it is a side effect. Right from the very first alendronic acid tablet I took I had a lot of bone pain that I certainly didn’t have before I started taking it.
I was never warned about it - I knew there could be problems with the gut however I didn’t have that problem. I had just about everything else though.
You often hear of people being advised to drink a lot of water before, during and after their infusions to prevent ‘flu like’ symptoms but I’ve never heard mention of bone pain - perhaps that is included in the ‘flu like’ symptoms?
I do hope you’re feeling better soon. Thank you for posting this - I’m having my first ZA infusion on Thursday and your post plus all the replies mean I’m now forewarned how I might feel.
