I tried two different types of calcium I was given by my doctor- something called Accrete D3 which I called ‘concrete’ it really upset my ziBS, the doctor then prescribed Adcal D3 but that’s the same really - both were calcium carbonate and from what the osteoporosis nurse said to me it’s not uncommon for that to upset some people. We decided I probably got enough calcium in my diet which I probably do but just to be on the safe side I top up with an algae based calcium capsule.

Am I right in thinking that you are not able to eat a lot of the calcium containing foods?

Hopefully someone will come along and explain all the different types of calcium to you - I’m not sure what they all are - and you will be able to find one that is better for you.

It might be best if you go back to your doctor and explain the problem then they could prescribe something more suitable for you.

thanks, there are a lot of foods that block calcium, I will have to see gp,I was going to get some calcium citrate myself but I will wait until I see gp.

I agree, I think you’d be better to wait and see your GP, apart from anything else you will get it free on prescription . Constipation is so horrible.

Glad you’re still out walking being in nature is very cheering.

You might look into something like Bone Up by Jarrow. It's got calcium, Vit. K, Vit. D - all the things you need in the right proportions. (there are other products like Bone Up on the market, which are discussed by writers here; none of them are cheap).

I don't know. It's just one pill that contains everything you need is more convenient than lots of different bottles and maybe cheaper (most people take 3-6 of Bone Up daily, depending on their needs). I like the fact that the proportions are correct and that you're not taking too much or too little of something essential. You have to figure out what's better for you.

yeah but what's the water for

Drinking a lot of water all day long prevents constipation and keeps your system going because dehydration makes you constipated

oh yeah I already drink water and chamomile tea.

you need to drink the equivalent about half a cup (100 ml) every hour right through the day. High fiber foods...a few prunes might also help. Good luck!

Calcium citrate. No constipation and still absorbed if you have low stomach acid. I get mine from Lamberts. 800mg daily

I have osteoporosis too and I also have reflux. My GP prescribed Lansoprazole but I found out that PPIs can thin the bones. You just can't win.

yeah that's right, I said to my gp regarding ppis thinning the bones but what can you do, I have tried other medications and tried to stop but after a couple of weeks comes back worse, at the moment I'm getting by on 20mg of pantoprazole, but still having to clear my throat, I don't know if I am absorbing calcium.,will have to ask for another blood test but even that doesn't tell you properly.

I take 15 mg of Lansoprazole twice a day. The blood test for calcium does not tell you how much calcium is in your bones. I take a daily supplement of vitamin K2 MK7 as it directs calcium straight into the bones. Otherwise, calcium can go into to your arteries and clog them up.

yeah, and there is oxalate and phylates in other foods that block calcium.

Not what you're looking for?
