Am on third brand of Strontium Citrate and doing better than on the first two. No tummy upset this time, have been increasing very slowly as I am very
med sensitive, so was on 40mg for 10 days and now 40mg one day and 80 mg every second day for a week, but the tiredness is difficult to put up with.
Usually hardly sleep at night (4 to 6 hours) but now its 7 to 8 hours waking every 2 x hours, which would be OK, but very sleepy and bit dizzy with it all through the day. Has anyone else experienced this and does it wear off? Also noticed more back pain (I can put up with both if it wears off but wondering how far
I can get up the dose if I am like this on just 40mg one day and 80 mg the next.
Running out of choices for things to help with 5 to 6 fractures already in my spine, so really want to persevere with this.
Thanks

It must be difficult if you're that sensitive to meds. Did you know the recommended daily dose of strontium citrate is 680mg? I think you'd get some benefit from less than that, but I guess you'd need to be taking at least 340mg daily. Have you talked to your GP about prescription options? I take strontium citrate and sleep badly, but I don't think the two are related, as poor sleep started long before I started the supplement.
Hi, I have stopped it for two days but will have to try again as running out of options. I did Forteo for 6 months, tried Actonel but that started off the gastritis I suffer with, tried Evista but got cramp in my calf within half an hour and I already have peripheral neuropathy so that worried me. My consultant wanted me on Prolia but I dont want that. How long have you been on the strontium citrate?
Unfortunately strontium ranelate has been turned down on apparent safety grounds in the US and therefore strontium citrate is dismissed for similar reasons. Yet strontium ranelate is considered safe in Europe, so long as it isn't prescribed for anyone with an existing heart problem. I'm happy with this and therefore believe that strontium citrate, like the prescription ranelate form, is safe if you don't have any heart issues, including high blood pressure. I'd had a full health check/blood tests etc before I started taking it.
It's interesting that the UK rejected Romosozumab at least twice before finally accepting it as safe, yet the US has been using it for some time. I note that Romosozumab is made by an American firm, whereas Strontium Ranelate is made by a European firm. I wonder whether that's relevant or just a coincidence?!
Unfortunately, the drug companies have far too much influence, so yes, country of origin probably comes into play.
About 2 months ago, I took my senior aunt to her endocrinologist appt. When I asked her doctor about the Marodyne LiV he completely dismissed it and said something like there’s always someone who will try to take your money. He had never even heard of liv (low intensity vibration) being used to reverse bone loss. At that time, I thought the the ROS had approved the Marodyne LiV for treatment of osteoporosis—I’ve since had an ROS admin person on this website tell me that the ROS has not approved Marodyne LiV to treat osteoporosis—I told my aunt’s endocrinologist that the ROS had approved it but the US FDA has not and he made a snide remark about Europe approving things too fast. Thought it was unprofessional and uncalled for, for several reasons. He went on to say if the technology was effective he would have heard of it.
Needless to say, I’m not a fan of this doctor but at least I was able to get my aunt a prescription for alendronate so she would experience stopping prolia related rebound fractures.
There should be a doctor who only treats osteoporosis patients because it seems to me most doctors are keeping up.
