Recommended daily amounts of MK4 and MK7 and the best supplement.

Hello everyone

I've recently posted about this and have subsequently done some more research., namely consulting Kate Rheaume-Bleue 's book Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox.

I have been taking a supplement which gives me a daily dose of 250 micrograms of MK7 and 1000 micrograms of MK4. The book recommends a daily dose of at least 120 micrograms of MK7, so my supplement is great for that. However it recommends 45,000 micrograms or 45 milligrams daily of MK4. So my supplement is clearly majorly insufficient. The cost of getting the right amount from this particular supplement would be prohibitive. Can anyone recommend a brand which provides the recommended amount of 45mg because my Amazon and Google searches are so far fruitless.Thanks.Thanks.x

Does the book recommend 120mcg K2-MK7 together with 45mg K2-MK4? I thought it was one or the other? 250mcg MK7 seems plenty to me, in which case I can't see that you'd need MK4 as well. I believe it's quite difficult to get MK4 in the UK, apart from, as you say, in low doses. Apparently Australia is the only country to give guidance on how much MK7 to take, they say 90-180mcg.

Yes it does recomend both.

Well the Australian recommendation coincides with Rheaume-Bleue's recommendations.x

You don’t need to get hung up on MK4 and MK7 they both do pretty much the same thing. MK4 is from animal products and MK7 from bacteria. In fact Kate Rheume-Bleue writes about the drawbacks of MK4 - the short half life and the amount one would need to take in supplement form. She does add a note of caution on MK7 for those allergic to soy.

“The health benefits are the same for each type when taken in appropriate doses.” I don’t think appropriate dosage is actually known, the amount taken seems to have evolved into the 45mg of 4 and 100-200mcg of 7.

I think the majority of people here (I stand to be corrected) will be taking MK7. I take 200mcg.
