Hi, I’ve just started taking alendronic acid after being diagnosed with OP. I have been taking Adcal for years for osteopenia but fell whilst cycling fracturing both wrists hence a dexa & the resultant diagnosis. Does anyone have any experience of using a UV lamp?

Hello Carol. That's a good question and one I hadn't considered previously, so I've had a quick look on the internet. There seem to be plenty of articles promoting the use of UV lamps for Vitamin D production, but I found this one that sounds a note of caution, recommending the better-known approach of taking Vit D3 supplements: berkeleywellness.com/supple...
Thanks for the info, I’ll take a look. Just wondered if anyone had tried them
Hi Carol,
Have you had a Vit D check? Your Vitamin D levels may be fine. I have my Vit D checked twice a year and it is fine so I am told by the doctor I see for my osteoporosis in the endocrinology department. I asked my GP to be referred to an OP specialist. My GP prescribes Vit D capsules for me (800iu) which I take daily. I also eat quite a lot of sardines which includes the bones. I have no experience of using a UV lamp.
Hi Kaarina, my levels are ok & I take calcium with vitD. I was just interested to know if anyone had tried lamps & how effective they are. Thanks
