Over the years I’ve tried various probiotics - always if I’ve been taking antibiotics and sometimes if my gut felt a bit *off* - I’ve got IBS. In the past I’ve tried expensive ones that had to live in the fridge - not good because out of sight, out of mind and I found I often forgot them to cheaper ones that I could keep on the table or put in my pill box. I’m using Optibac at the moment and they seem ok.

I drink some kefir daily as I believe it is good for osteoporosis and I enjoy it. :) I also take a daily yakult.

I'm taking Bone Up vitamins and trying to eat 6 prunes a day (2 with each meal) to preserve bone density along with kefir and ground flaxmeal.

There is some evidence that Lactobacillus reuteri improves bone health. I am currently taking a Lactobacillus reuteri probiotic from BioGaia. I couldn't tell you from personal experience if it actually helps osteoporosis.

I take this one too. William Davis, MD has extensive info in his last book, Super Gut. I'm in my 4th month with it, so I'm not aware of changes with bones this fast. That said, it has helped my digestion to return to a more normal timeframe and consistency.

I’m on probiotics and have been for a long time now. I think it was my Dr recommended I go on them. Probably for my tummy as I have diverticular disease as well as Osteoporosis.

I drink Kefir, found by taking it, my body could now accept B12 into my system. Apparently B12 is the hardest vitamin to get into one’s system. And I was loosing B12 mega until I started taking Kefir. I drink it 3 times a week. Also I feel it helps my digestive system. I like the cherry one the best, but strawberry and coconut also very nice.

Several options:

- regular probiotics

bio-kult.co.uk/gut-health-s...

- spore based probiotics

microbiomelabs.co.uk/megasp...

- foods: plain yogurt and kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi and other fermented vegetables/pickles etc.

I make my own Kefir which I eat every morning with my home made granola (lots of nuts) and a fruit. This has helped my stomach tremendousy (used to have lousy stomach now it is great) and also make my own sauerkraut and pickles.

I use Optibac as well. It has got L. Reuteri in it.

I just started regularly taking a probiotic, and I am using the expensive one that has to be refrigerated. I did a metabolic panel, part of my personal quest to see what underlying issues might be accelerating bone loss, causing other issues I'm not aware of. I scored off the charts for "yeast/fungal dysbiosis" markers, very high on some dysbiosis markers, and the recommendation was a probiotic with at least 25 billion CFU, so I'm taking them. Dysbiosis causes "leaky gut" and leaky gut is malabsorption, malabsorption means nutrients aren't getting into cells, which means they don't get to my bones. It's probably not the primary cause for my very advanced osteoporosis at a relatively young age. but it certainly didn't help. Probiotic doesn't seem to faze me (as leaky gut didn't faze me, no idea I had absorption issues,) so it's an easy (if kinda spendy,) intervention. Easier than the Fosamax, which IS causing me to have "pain behind the sternum" (I never have reflux, GI issues that I know of, right? But now I am,) after just four doses.
