Hubby had his first HCC treatment last week, and it went according to plan. He has had no pain and no side effects yet. Of course now I’m worrying that they didn’t give him a high enough dose, but that’s just me. We wait six weeks to see what effect the radiation had on his tumors. This wait is not a problem because I am just so thrilled to have a healthy and happy husband after “cancer” treatment. Taking one good day at a time now. Best wishes and prayers to everyone. Linda
Y-90 Plus One Week: Hubby had his first... - Blue Faery Liver ...
Y-90 Plus One Week
Linda, this is great news!
Dave had no bad after-effects from his first Y-90, beyond some nausea in the early days, and it was effective for him, so I would take it as a sign that the doctor did a great job. 🎉 It's really hard going into these treatments and not knowing how they will affect our loved ones, so I'm thrilled that it's going well for your husband. 🙂
Sending much love and prayers for continued good news!
Wendy (in Michigan)
Awesome news!!! Totally get you worrying as I did the same thing!!! We were prepared for all kinds of side effects and other than some initial nausea, thankfully there were none and my husband had a great response. Praying the same for you!!!!! Bonnie
Thank you, Bonnie!
Hi Linda,So glad to hear this! I'm afraid I don't have any experience to share on the Y90 because Jimmy has never had it. Because of the condition of his liver, no radiation treatments were available for him. So happy he's not having bad side effects. ❤️
Praying for great results and for him to continue to feeling well.
❤️🙏🙏❤️

Yo! My first Y-90 was symptom free for for a week and a half. Then a very minor pain that Advil took care of. Then I became weaker and tired real quick. Still drove, went places, shopped with my wife. After my second treatment pretty much the same. After the Y-90 insertions we go to the Nuclear Scan which is to see if any of the Y-90 escaped to anywhere else in the body, lungs, stomach, intestines, Both of mine they did not. I have a Patient Portal where I can read the test results notes from my Interventional Radiologist, Dr. Siragusa of UF Health Jacksonville Florida. Ask your husbands Doctor about the scan and its result. I believe were micro balls found elsewhere you would know. Trust them but make them keep you informed. God Bless!
Hubby never had a nuclear scan to see where beads ended up. His oncologist indicated a scan would be done after the procedure to see which tumors had been radiated, but it didn’t happen. Never heard from the IR again. I had to request the CT scan. I don’t think these docs are talking to each other.
I went straight to the Nuclear scan immediately after the insertion of both Y-90 procedures. There will be a MRI of the Liver to determine if the tumors have been killed. If not we can have one more procedure, but no more. It is not expected that will be needed, (Famous last words!). Not sure I asked you this. Did he have the Therasphere Micro Glass Balls or the Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT)?
March 30, 2022 I go for a thirty minute meeting with my Doctor to review the Liver function test I took two days ago. I have now had two Y-90's, right and left lobes. I also had COVID between the two! Yeah, batting a thousand here. I am tired, loss of energy. I am having abdominal discomfort, but the good news is the minor pain has subsided and I can lay on my right side again! So the good lord willing and the creek don't rise all will be ok! Good luck to us all and may God Bless each and every one! Amen
Thanks for encouraging words, however, I don't believe that in France you are eligible for Y90 if your treatment had started with TACE, which my husband's did. Or even if it is available. However, I am glad to hear that it seems to have beneficial results for your partner(?) and others who have undergone this procedure. Long may it continue.
We are still waiting for that CT scan to see the result of Y-90. It is scheduled for March 31. Then we will see his oncologist to get results on April 11, unless I can figure out how to see it sooner. In the meantime, he is having an EGD and ERCP tomorrow for removal of gallstones in his bile duct, possible stent, and a look around. He is very anxious about the procedure tomorrow. I am trying to keep him busy: golf and dinner out. Praying for all of us. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Praying for a good procedure today, Linda, and a great outcome from the scan on the 31st. 🙏 But man, waiting until the 11th for the results is not fun, is it? Dave had a portal (his care was through the VA) and he used to always download his results ahead of the doctor appointments. I think it took 3 days, usually, for them to show up and even waiting for those 3 days was hard!
A lot of healthcare systems have portals like that now - when Dave switched to community care, the hospital he was using had one as well. Maybe do a search on the hospital's website and see if they have a patient portal you can sign up for with hubby's info? Then you can pop on and get results sooner. I always liked being mentally prepared vs going in and having no clue what the doctor was going to tell us.
Hope your golf and dinner were wonderful!
Always sending love and light,Wendy
Hi Wendy! I am in all his portals (2 hospitals and one cancer center) but they have the ability to withhold the results. I am sure this is done with the best of intentions, but I don’t need handholding. Dinner and golf were wonderful. The procedures went according to plan today and no after effects except for fatigue. Thank you for all the encouragement! It really helps. Prayers for all of us, Linda.
Hi Linda. How are y'all doing ? I hope the procedures yesterday went well. I'll keep y'all in my prayers on the 31st. Truer words were never spoken. I don't think the doctors communicate enough with each other which has been one of my issues during this journey. Its terrible that y'all have to wait so long for the results of the CT. Hopefully something will be available in his patient portal and the visit will just be to explain and discuss going further. Thunderstorms coming through our area tonight so having a hard time sleeping. Take care and talk to you soon.
