My husband had a liver transplant on November 1, 2019 due to HCC, so 14 months since transplant. He gets an MRI every 3 months to monitor him. On December 23, his MRI show a mass on his adrenal gland. He is scheduled this Thursday to have it removed, they may need to remove part of his new liver and possibly his kidney. We are both scared to death. He has been through so much as it is however based on conversation with this the doctor this option would give the most positive outcome warrant there are no complications.
Has anyone experienced a recurrence of HCC? If so how was it treated.
Thanks so much

I know several people who had have a recurrence of HCC. It happens approximately 50% of the time. My concern is that there is a mass in the adrenal gland. Have the doctors specified the stage of cancer? Feel free to email me directly.
Hi there! I'm very sorry to hear about your husband. I understand that recurrence is quite common with HCC but I don't have personal experience with it. How did the scheduled removal of the mass on the adrenal gland go? Did they confirm it was the HCC recurring?
Hi, the surgery was long and the doctor stated it was rough. My husband lost a lot of blood but he is doing good now and hoping to be released from the hospital in a few days. They believed it was HCC recurring but we wont know for sure until the pathology report comes back. Doctor told us upfront they would not move forward with the surgery if they saw cancer any place else, so for now anyway they did not see any. It is so devastating to go through the transplant surgery and recover and than for this to happen again. All we can do is pray and hope for the best but it pains me to see him goes through all of this.
