Sudden increase in blood pressure- CAN infection cause?

hi everyone

Mum & younger sister both suffer with high blood pressure. I never have & have been able to take nifedipine for raynauds which has helped a lot! I don’t even often need twice daily.

However it’s somewhat irrelevant except I’m suspicious that without it then my rate goes up.

That & resting always improve readings- the moment I’ve been doing more, they creep back up although thankfully javnt been at the 200 mark since yesterday morning.

Should I be getting a 24hr monitor to record readings?or wait as tomorrow antibiotics finish?

i ask as a separate gp called to say they do not correlate but get the fever gone first (now finally has) better rates yet still overall much higher than my normal.

it would explain weight loss headaches lack of appetite nausea with sickness fatigue tremors/shakes all things I’d put down to thyroid&/or vit b levels needing another look.

thoughts/ideas welcome please xx

I can’t comment on raised blood pressure during a fever - but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s raised when you’ve a temperature.

I’m a bit confused about your statement that your blood pressure goes up and down. Your blood pressure naturally goes up and down throughout the day and night, and it’s normal for it to go up while you’re moving about. Your body could not function if it didn’t. If you even think about running for the bus, your nervous system knows that it needs to prepare for action and your pressure will go up.

Can I suggest that you go to the website of Blood Pressure UK the specialist charity, and if you need additional information please do come back here and we will see if we can help.

my resting heartbeat definitely goes up when I have an infection. It’s the first indication to me that I’m coming down with something. I know that’s not blood pressure but there may be a link.
