Hi everyone I take Ramipril at bedtime, my blood preasure average after a week of readings for my GP was 151/97 so they have added in Amlodipine
When would you suggest starting the Amlodipine? Was going tovtake in morning, but chemist has only just delivered. Would you take first dose now? And then earlier tomorrow morning for 2nd dose?

it might be easier for you to take it at your usual medication time. Then you can be sure that you have received the correct dosage for a 24 hour period.
Thabk you Madlegs1 & Happyrosie One thing I was wondering, my average of 7 days of readings was 151/97 but sometimes in a morning my reading can be like 135/89 - would 5mg Amlodipine drop a reading of 135/89 too low?
Whenever you do a reading, take 4 in a row, one after the other. No waiting. Disregard the first one ,and average out the other 3. That is your reading.
Don't take readings after exercise. Rest awhile. Sit at kitchen table, feet on ground. Upper arm in line with heart.
Last summer I had a lot of trouble stabilising my blood pressure. I was first diagnosed in 2013 and it has gradually crept up. I have been taking ramipril since then which was increased over the years to 10mg. Then they added Doxasosin and that didn't help enough. The hypertension nurses were baffled and I was eventually referred to our resident pharmacist at the surgery. She was expert in hypertension and has same problem. She prescribed 5mg of amlopodine and after a couple of weeks dropped the Doxasosin. I wondered about splitting the two but she said both best taken together. I take them in the morning along with a statin. Before the amlopidine my blood pressure was dipping about midday and would rise over night. The amlopidine sorted me out and now been stable for months now. Funny how it took the pharmacist to sort me out.
I was told to take Amlodipine at night because one of it's uses is for people who have trouble sleeping, so it can make you tired. I can't say it's particularly helped me sleep, but just repeating what I was told by my GP, if it's of any help.
