Help with current BP problems

I have had above average BP readings since in my 20s when on the pill. I have always been overweight for my height , and have now been told I have CKD3 . I have been given potassium pills for the BP which have little effect only to raise my pain problems. This does not make sense to me as foods with potassium are supposed to make the CKD3 worse, so why a tablet with high potassium content to reduce blood pressure? Any one on here have any replies to this strange thing. I have also been told I am obese but my mum was overweight all her life drank regularly , ate many no no foods but lived to 97 she actually died at her normal weight as per chart from eating only quavers & grapes in the nursing home in her short stay before death. She had very few illnesses in her life . I am concerned about taking these tablets whilst trying to keep my kidneys healthy but of course things like paracetamol can also effect the kidneys & liver if taken regularly as many arthritic patients like myself do. Anyone have experience of this issue in respect of BP . ? Oh and these tablets (potassium are not keeping the bp down now my body is absorbing them fully) Any suggestions would be appreciated.

this isn’t a common problem as far as I know so any responses might be skewed one way or another, particularly when taking account of your age, ht/wt, other medical history, family history, ethnicity, and the fact that there are several chronic kidney diseases... and so on.

A good source of information could be (if you are in the UK) the pharmacist who is probably attached to your docs group of surgeries. He or she would know your history and be able to look at your blood tests, and might suggest alternative medicines to your doctor if appropriate

Perhaps contact your GP practice as they should be testing your kidney function regularly both for your kidney disease and any blood pressure tablet that can affect your kidney function

A pharmacist can also advise you and usually give excellent advice about medicines.

There are blood pressure tablets which are potassium ‘“sparing” but they’re not potassium tablets.

Hope you’re able to find the answers to your queries.
