What a day I've had, five hours of Dr's and phone calls. Finally they are all starting to recognise all the BP meds I have ever been feed I react to. I never thought it would be so difficult to get medical professionals to understand their meds are stripping the lining of my stomach. I'm still off meds after 12 days and not eating. Usually it is resolving by now and I have been wondering why it hasn't. The penny has dropped. This time around they have been giving me aspirin so there is no chance the stomach can recover. Going off aspirin immediately. Mean time BP has hit 174/109 and rising. Becoming more concerned that a major stroke is highly likely while they all consult each other and I have to just hang in there.
I'm told to sit and relax and that is when the migraine and eye distortion are worse. I seem to be better working.
There are no rules, but at 175/110, you are not likely to be in danger at all. I had two relatives who died on stroke - both measured systolic BP at the level 260 prior to it. What you measured, I have measured for the whole of spring this year, with no consequences at all. During the summer, my BP dropped to about 150/70 what is sooo good for an 71 years old. All the best! P.

Thank you for the reply.
Trying to get an answer from medical professionals is like finding hen's teeth. I have averaged 150 ish over 100 for 30 years prior to medication finally 15 mini strokes. Topping out 260 /140, bad description! I know I can take the high BP's short term but with the mini strokes happening now at 71, I wilted to the pressure of accepting meds. Not my finest decision as it transpires. It remains to be seen if I can withstand the constant migraines and tinnitus.
It gives me some idea of the room I have to move which is better than being panicked into the constant pressure of " too high you need to lower it ".
If you are just seeing your GP…do ask for a referral to a cardiologist..I had trouble finding suitable BP medication until I saw a specialist & am now at 82 on suitable medication…with good control.
I'm due to see a pharmacist, not a chemist, who will peer review my situation and meds.
No referral possible to a cardiologist as my heart is good and strong so referred back to my GP.
The problem is gastro and I'm under their care currently. Also waiting for Neurology as it appears I may have been having mini strokes for the last year or 2 without knowing.
