I’m currently on Amlodipine and Ramipril for high blood pressure. I then lost my father and didn’t want to know about what other medications I could try. He wants me to try Doxazosin The prescription is waiting for me at the pharmacy and I am just wondering if it did work for someone? I am not nervous about taking it. I just wonder because you read about just the people who have problems with medication, not the ones who do good on it lol.
Many thanks

It didn't work for me in as much as the side effects weren't great. Have a read up of those. I'm on Losartan now and it's doing the trick, no side effects at all. Remember, everyone is different.
I try not to read the side effects unless I feel weird when at first taking it LOL. I would scare myself too much. My mum once refused to take this drug because it said on the leaflet may cause tongue to swell and when she finally took it she was pulling her tongue out and asking me if it was swollen?
Hi, I take 2mg of Doxazosin twice a day, started on once a day,I was told by the pharmasist to take at night. then it was upped to twice a day. mine is split as I had bad side affects from other BP meds
I am also on Bisoprolol and Indapamide (for fluid retention). but appart from the odd bit of breatlessness all seems to be fine.
I suppose we just have to try them and if we don’t get any side effects then great. I have a cough and I am sure it is the Ramipril but my doctor won’t take me off it.
Hi, sorry it's taken me a while to reply. I was put on Doxazosin after a recommendation by my heart specialist. That took the total of different BP medications I was on to 4. I felt no difference and it made no difference to my BP. After a stress test on my heart the specialist declared nothing wrong with my heart and took me off them.
Since then I have been diagnosed with cancer and my oncologist has stopped 2 of my BP pills. This has made no difference to my BP which averages about 140/74 and I feel better in myself. From taking a total of 6 BP pills a day I now take only 2.
I think sometimes GPs just try different medications to see if hit on a combination that works. All very well but they very rarely review them and you end up on them for ever whether they work all not. A review date always appears on my repeat prescription , but I have never had a call from GP to do one. I once did try to make an appointment for a review only to be to ignore that date on prescription that's just for the Drs reference.
I got straight to the doc and tell him that it is not working or making me ill. I wish to have a different one. We should all have input in our health. as one doctor told me, doctors are making guesses and input can help. Ask whatever concerns you.
