Hi I'm new to this site I've been diagnosed with secondary hypertension BP regularly rises to 235/115 I'm currently taking candisartan 16mg, bisoprolol 2.5mg and now they have given me doxazosin 1mg which I've been taking since Friday but when I woke up this morning I couldn't hear properly and now my ears feel blocked up I know it's the doxazosin as ears were fine before this! Has anybody else had this? And do I have to just wait for this to go away? Any advice welcome 😁
Doxazosin : Hi I'm new to this site I... - High Blood Pressu...
Doxazosin
That sounds unpleasant but I'm sorry I can't help as I'm on totally different meds.My bp was high like yours though. You say it is secondary hypertension, what is it due to?
I was on Doxazosin for a while, 4mg at one point, didn't have any side effects that I knew of. I did find it brought my BP down though especially when I was in hospital. I'd persevere if I were you. You might just have a slight virus or something, we are at that time of year. Good luck at getting the bp under control, mine was up at those dizzy heights for while too, good news is it does come down!
Thankyou did you wee all night I'm taking at night due to making me drowsy but last night was up 4 times for a wee 🙁
I think that's a well know side effect of Bisoprol not the Dox, I wake at least once a night now, never used to prior! I am on Bisoprolol 10mg as well as Ramipril. Bisoprolol also making you drowsy. Thats wears off as well, I have the opposite now, can't sleep!
Thought it was the doxazosin as its also used for prostate problems? 🤔
Yes correct perhaps it does make it worse, there was a long discussion on the BHF forum regarding Bisoprolol night waking to use the toilet and it seems lots have that issue as well. I assumed it was Bisoprolol, but may have been the Dox too. I am still getting up at 2ish most nights to use the toilet and I stopped the Dox in December. In any case I sympathise as it's a right pain!
You might want to look at this site that addresses side effects :

I did not see blocked ears as a side effect. The next step is to read if doxazosin interacts with the meds you are taking:

I do see bisoprolol shaded in orange although you take a low dose. You might want to discuss interactions with your health care provider.
Hi i have been on Bendrofluemethiazide, Candesartan and 4mg Doxazosin for 15 plus years and have never put the blocked ears down to the Doxazosin, i had benign positional vertigo about 5 years ago and was told the crystals in the middle ear were responsible. My BP has been stable for the last 15 yrs on that combination of drugs.
i have similar on same meds . not ears but nose ! difficult to breath . I know I shouldnt but sometimes i stop taking medicine with side effects . Wait for the side effect to go away then start again . Maybe there is some ear drops you can use to clear these. Dont worry it will get back to normal . Good luck , James
I stopped doxazocin because of wheezing and dryness of throat etc. So maybe affects ears. It also caused less control of bladder.
Hi I was on Doxazosin for four months I ended up with labyrinthitis doc said but vertigo through taking med. Doctor didn’t agree it was the meds. Like you I have never had that before I was prescribed doxazosin . It was horrendous spinning in bed and when standing. Lasted for weeks. Quite a few meds give dizziness in their list of side effects but this was spinning. So I would say does affect ears. I would return and ask doctors advice and maybe he can prescribe another Med for you.
