I have been on 5mg of amlodipine for about 5 weeks, my blood pressure has increased in that time.
I have noticed over the last ten days that i am smelling a smell like a dirty over is turned on, rather than smelling something in particular the air feels polluted. My eyes stings as well. This doesnt seem to happen outdoors so I wondered if it was due to dry air but now I am wondering if it could be the Amlodipine? Has anyone heard of similar side effects? I have asked my Dr if I can stop for a while to see if it goes away. My wife can't smell this smell but has suggested that I smell odd - maybe the smell is coming from me?
I am covid negative and as far as I am aware I have'nt had it.
Thanks
Kieron

I have been taking amlodipine for almost three years now and have never experienced side effects such as those you mention.
I would definitely speak to your GP before stopping them because - even after just five weeks - stopping could result in rebound hypertension. If they are not suiting you, I'm sure your GP can suggest an alternative but it's always best to have something else in place before stopping.
Have you taken anything like antibiotics recently or had a virus that could have caused your issues with strange smells?
I’m on Amlodipine as my 2nd bp med and that’s what helped get my stubborn bottom number down. I would definitely see you gp as seems like it’s not working for you.
I also have long covid and hear similar stories with phantom smells, I still get them from time to time but it hasn’t got worse since being on Amlodipine.
