High BP but GP says not?

Iv been told to keep dairy of my BP for week by my GP, I keep getting 137/103 as my average. The GP says it’s ok and doesn’t want me on meds as I’m 35 yr old. I eat healthy, exercise all the normal for a healthy woman. Iv been having other cardio tests and the hospital questioned if I knew my BP was high which I didn’t. Do I need a second opinion for my BP, it runs in my family too.

I would have thought a consistent reading of 103 definitely needs further investigation especially at your young age.

I agree with Celtic. 103 is high. In some schools of thought 137 is a bit high too. I would investigate further with your doctor.

Please get a second opinion, especially considering your age. I’ve no wish to worry you, but here’s my story. I was visiting dr with high BP readings at home for 18 months, only to be told repeatedly, it was not consistently high enough to merit treatment.

On last occasion I was told off for wasting an emergency appointment, but I insisted dr took my BP and it was 218/120. I’ll never forget the look on her face as she phoned the hospital to admit me- still let me drive home though !

That evening my BP went up to 232/121, (they would never tell me after that). Apparently it’s called Malignant Hypertension, and I was very lucky, as they said I could have had a stroke, heart attack or worse. The hospital consultants were horrified that it had been high for so long, without treatment.

I have been on Amlodopine 10 mg and Indapamide 2.5, daily for 2 years, and my readings are now around 120/67. My lifelong migraines have also miraculously stopped (3-6 per week prior).

Please don’t just accept one persons diagnosis, as high BP can affect your heart, kidneys, eye pressure etc. If it wasn’t for my daughter pushing me to call into the Surgery that day, I might not be here now.

Good luck, and don’t be afraid to push for a second opinion- you know your own body, and when something doesn’t feel right, it’s safer to get it thoroughly checked out.

An average of 103 diastolic B/P is considered high. It means your resting heart is struggling a little. Good that u are having tests at hospital.Make sure u follow this up and insist on a consultation with explanation on why the diastolic is high. 🍀🍀

At your age the diastolic is indeed a bit high. Further reading from Blood Pressure UK might help you. Your doc is probably thinking that once you’re on BP meds, you never get off them and it’s better to keep off as long as poss. You say your diet is healthy- are you sure about your salt intake?

Interesting and refreshing to hear a Dr not put you on meds and unusual! Perhaps have a 24 hour monitor fitted see what your real readings are and to be thorough take your own readings for a month. At the doctors I have readings lots higher than yours, with a 24 hour monitor it wasc126/57. Ask your Dr why he says what he says you don't need meds, ask for the above and take it from there.I wish you all the best.

Hi Aussie_lass87. I agree with the others here and feel 103 is too high and needs further investigation. Good luck.
