I was just wondering about peoples experiences with ramipril-related cough. I've had my medication switched recently because I was coughing more and more over time and it was doing my head in. Yesterday was my last day taking ramipril and while I'm certainly aware the cough may take some time to stop, and I understand everyone might be different, I just hoped to get some rough idea. So those who experienced cough from ramipril and no longer take it, how long did it take for the cough to go away?

Ramipril cough
I was on it several years ago and had the cough. I can't remember how long after stopping them that it disappeared but I don't think it was that long.
Sorry to hear you have had that reaction too. I had a terrible cough which developed quite soon after starting Ramipril. It took me a couple of weeks to realise the cause but once I stopped taking it, it gradually disappeared and was totally gone within 2 weeks. Very sore ribs from that cough! Good luck 🤞
I was on Perindopril…..& developed “the cough.” I was in the process of being investigated for asthma …but that turned out negative & the cough was put down to what is known as “the pril cough “…….there are a apparently a few drugs ending in “pril” …….I don’t know if everyone gets it..l presume not…or these drugs wouldn’t still be prescribed .
I was on it for several months and developed an awful cough . It took about 3 weeks in total to disapppear.
I was changed over to Losartan from Ramipril because of the cough, took a few weeks for things to change.
so far not had any issues with them been on them a few months now.
I had a cough from Ramipril and once I stopped taking I was cough free within four days.
Ramipril is well known for this problem, I tried it twice, and had to come off of it.
Thanks all for the replies. It's now been 6 days on the new medication (Candesartan) and while I'm not entirely cough-free yet, it has lessened and I seem to have stopped waking up in the middle of the night coughing (that was the worst part of this side effect for me)
