Losartin and hair loss

Hi is anyone on losartin shedding there hair mine coming out in handfuls it’s only started to do this since I started on this drug I’ve always had very thick hair but not anymore I’m worried sick I’ll end up bold ?

Hello Pennylane. I’ve not had this tablet nor the problems that you’ve talked about (I also looked at your last post a few months ago).Can I make two suggestions? You said your BP is normal at home but goes up in the docs surgery - so that makes you normal!!

My first suggestion is that you take a series of pressures at home, say twice a day for five days, write them down. Assuming they are. I’ve and low, present your doctor with these readings along with a request that they review your medication seeing that the side effects are difficult. If your BP goes up just looking at the monitor, then get someone to write down the result without you seeing it. Of course, you need to be sitting quietly and have your eyes closed while the machine is squeezing your arm.

My second suggestion is to have a good read of Blood Pressure UK website, and even give their helpline a call.

Hello, I was swapped to losartan from lisinopril, because of the cough, about 18 months ago. My hair is much thinner now than it was but I put it down to getting older, I’m 66. Having read your message, I realise that my hair loss began just after starting losartan. I will mention to my GP, but I know they will say that hair loss, like other things, are not side effects and that the benefits outweigh blah blah. However, as an ex hairdresser, I know that many medications can effect the hair. It seems that everyone suffers some kind of side effect from any blood pressure med and we have to try different types… not always possible.

Thank you for reply my hair has always been thick as I said and I know you lose a few strands a day but the amount I’m losing it terrible I’m going to save it for a week then go back to my doctor with it see what he thinks 🤦‍♂️
