Just curious, I've been on amlodipine 10 mg once a day,for close to a year now.I'm starting to notice that I have become very forgetful and have short term memory loss episodes, Like the other night I was watching televsion and decided to walk to my fridge to make a sandwich,as I get to the fridge and open,I completely forget what I was going to the fridge to get.I had to sit there and pause and think what I went to the fridge to get, and then a minute or so later it comes back to me .Something like this happens to me at least once every other day.Should I be concerned about this?I've been reading online about amlodipine on the internet web sites, and memory loss is not mentioned in any of the "common side effects".All of this started about 3 to 4 months after I got put on amlodpine for my Hypertension. I just turned 40 a month ago.Is this a side effect from the meds? or could I just be suffering from early onset dementia. Like I stated above had no problem with my memory until after about 3 to 4 months after I got put on this drug.

Short memory loss occuring
Hi daycord. It's really strange reading what you have said. I have been on 5 mg Amlodipine for a year now (with a five-six week break in March/April). I started them last July and all of that time virtually I have been having memory lapses and doing things the same as you mention. It's so bad sometimes that I go to say something to my husband and it's gone as soon as I turn my head to speak. It has been worrying me for a good while now. I have been blaming medications for Rheumatoid Arthritis that I have been on for almost a year now but you have given me food for thought. I am a lot older than you though - 71 but it started quite suddenly. I will start to investigate and if I find anything out, I will come back to you. x
daycord, if I were you, I would raise this with your GP and ask to be switched to a different medication. Brain damage and memory loss are apparently more recently discovered possible side effects. In the absence of other medications, any hormone imbalance and at the age of just 40, Amlodipine does sound like the very likely culprit. Good luck!
U are very young to experience this, are u menopausal, it does affect memory ( definitely)or are u just a bit distracted because u have a lot of worries or concerns. Stress can affect memory as well. Mention it to GP.
With Amlodopine anything is possible. Take a look through the posts and it seems to be by far the number one drug when it comes to complaints about side effects....
You might want to discuss with your GP to lower the dose to 5mg. If your blood pressure goes too high, then a different class of drug could be added. Recent literature states that a higher dose of a single drug cause greater side effects so that a combo approach of lesser dosage of drugs will cause less side effects.
I’ve been on 10 mg for 20 years now I’ve decided to reduce to 5 mg as my blood pressure is in very good shape.
If I wanted to blame Something for my short term memory loss I would blame Cabernet Sauvignon not my blood pressure pills!
I have just switched to Amlodipine because the prior medication Losartan was causing muscle discomfort in my legs which is one of the side effects. I have noticed that the new medication tends to make me tired so I Just started taking it at night instead of the morning. I will keep an eye out for lack of concentration or forgetfulness!
I am on Amlodipine no side effects
I do too suffer with memory loss but put that down to age (58) we do suffer with this from time to time
But for you have you thought about maybe the dose is too high and its making your BP quite low. That can cause all kinds of things.
sorry its not much help
