Hi again. Since quitting smoking and stop eating any sugar my blood pressure did go down, I was on 5 mg of Rampiril, I have had 2 ekg and X ray and all was ok , lungs clear and heart right size. I was getting checked as I have had chest pains for 4 months now! I do get anxiety, and I wounder if acid reflux. I have had heavy chest pain today and I think I was scared and my pressure spiked and is about 165/90 My normal is about 126/74 Is this a dangerous spike? I am going for more test , they will check down my top end. This time whem chest pain, I can touch right center of my chest just over solar plex and it is tender... any advice please? Anyone had this kind daily chest pain? I have just taking alot more stress at work, it also hurts more when I breath in,,,,please advice?

I think you will find it is stress induced reflux. Terrifying the first times but now more scary for the ambo's than me. Sadly you can't be totally sure it is not heart on each occasion as heart attacks are possible for anyone. Stress causes more problems than we realise.

My BP is averaging your high every day! Yes it is not good but I have lived with it for over 20 years and my health is stable.

Try not to stress out is the reality but often not so easy to do.

Hi crispy1970. It sounds like GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) in other words, acid reflux, can you not take some indigestion remedy for it? It's good that they are going to have a look down your top end, that should tell them what's going on. Good luck.

Hi I was informed by my GP and a hospital pharmacist that it's possible to suffer gastric reflux as a result of taking BP medication, due to possible effects on the muscle around the stomach /esophagus, I was prescribed omeprazole to help reduce stomach acid and Gerd I take these as and when required, and they have been a big help, this may not work for everyone, hope you find out more about your condition.

Hi, I am currently new to bp meds, I have had high blood for years but git a weird pain/pressure in centre of chest, similar to yours. Currently waiting to see heart clinic but on further investigation I think I have started with GERD all the symptoms fit. I am over weight and also have anxiety issues which makes things much worse, but have decided to try and get rid of some weight, I’ve heard good things about probiotics so considering trying those as well.

I had the pressure/pain feeling for 2 days but have had it on and off since January, which prompted my visit to the hospital.

It also takes some time for your body to adjust to no sugar, spikes in insulin can happen, plus b/p meds. all can knock into each other, I also tried out some of the hypnosis apps to calm me down, all helped.

Hope you manage to get to the bottom of it soon, good luck.

Well done on stopping smoking and losing weight. These lifestyle changes will help you, whatever the final diagnosis. Once things have settled - and it can take a few weeks - you’ll find things easier and life more pleasant - and lessen the likelihood of stroke and heart attack imminently

Do remember though that we’re not doctors on this forum - do take notice of what the medics tell you.

As far as taking anti acids are concerned, if you buy over-the-counter ones check with your pharmacist that they don’t interfere with any prescribed medication, one or two of them may do so.

Hi. I got terrible acid reflux in my pregnancy and found zantac really good as an over the counter remedy. I've been left with high blood pressure which is slowly coming down, but have read some very interesting early research that suggests GERD can actually cause spikes in BP. So either way, get some treatment for the indigestion, perhaps from your GP, and it might help in more ways than one...
