Does high blood pressure cause arm veins to become distended

I have very prominent veins in my arms. Can a very high systolic pressure cause my veins to become extremely prominent? They look like blue hoses in my arms. My boyfriend thinks it's no big deal. I am afraid to take my pressure with my veins bulging out so much. My pressure was 212/166 today. Last night my hypertension specialist added Vasotec and Lexxel. Next may be IV medication.
