Hi all
I’m a type 2 diabetic, age 62, previous hysterectomy. I get recurring water infections and often the dipstick shows that up and nearly as many times I’m told no infection. I class myself as having painful bladder syndrome though that’s never been confirmed. My question today is that often along with the infection I’m told the dipstick indicates along with leukocytes or white cells (maybe they’re the same 🤔) there is blood, it’s been classed as both visible and microscopic. Anyone know why with some infections you get blood. I was asked to drop off a sample a week later after finishing three days of nitrofurantoin and it had cleared.
I had a bladder scan which was unremarkable about 4 years ago and kidney ultrasound which showed a kidney stone of 3mm.
Have you had anything similar yourself where there’s no reason seemingly for the presence of blood. As a child I suffered seriously painful cystitis where it hurt me so much to wee. I was only around 5 when I had a kidney scan and my mum used to say that whatever it was they told her it would come back when I was a young woman. Well that pain haunted me into my 20s and 30s but I at least stopped getting the intense pain when I wee’d eventually, so I don’t call it that usual cystitis.
Also would like to know if you’ve found anything successful to prevent recurring infections. It’s just thoroughly miserable to keep getting them, especially as I also get recurring thrush and have piles!! I just wish I could do away with that party of my body sometimes. I think this last infection might have followed taking Vagifem for a few days in a row as I also have vaginal atrophy and had forgotten to take it for a week or two so thought I’d do 7 days in a row. Your thoughts please.
Thank you for reading this long diatribe
