Hi. Not so long ago, I had to go into Hospital as my INR had shot up to 7.2. My Target is 2.5 to 3.5. I tried everything to get out of going in, but INR Nurse wouldn't hear of it. I didn't have Bleeding from the Back Passage but a very. very, Bloodshot Eye. Although I do know that Bleeding like your Brother has can be a Side-Effect of Warfarin. I was put on Heparin via a Machine, Warfarin left Off and then put back On, Fragmin, and eventually they did get it back down and within my INR Range. I have to say that the Care was excellent. I did feel a bit of a Fake because, apart from my Eye, I didn't feel ill at all!! I was in for 13 days. I can't advise you anymore but really hope they get it sorted for him. They did with me and feel fine. Best wishes to him ❤️

If they knew the exact change to make in the warfarin dose it would only take 3 days or so to get to target. However, it's a guessing game so it can take (considerably) longer depending on how quickly they can dial it in.

I took about 10 days post surgery to reach therapeutic range as mine shot up to 7.9 on their first guesses. (My target is 2.0 to 3.0.)

Heparin is much faster acting, so it's easier to control (in either direction). But generally they only use it as an adjunct to warfarin as it has to be injected.

I have had the same problem as your brother was given vitamin k and then recommenced my warfarin at normal dosage a week later. It

came back the next week within my range

Has your brother eaten dark greens cranberry or grapefruit because they make a difference to readings

I had bleeding from back passage too
