hi guys please can anyone tell me if you can take the cold sore treatment medication aciclovir with heart medication? I suffer with very painful cold sores and I have started with one day, before my HA I would take the medication at the first sign of a cold sore and it would reduce the severity but I’m not sure if I can still take it. thanks

Ask a pharmacist who is qualified to give you an answer. The pharmacist from where you bought/were dispensed the aciclovir should be able to help, especially when you explain what medication you are taking.

I'm on bisoprolol and always run anything by the pharmacist first, even 'over the counter' medication like anti histamines. They're the experts! Good luck.

I agree you should check with a pharmacist. I’m immunosuppressed and suffered with almost permanent cold sores, so I sympathise. I was put on daily Aciclovir by my transplant team - problem solved. I’m also on lots of heart meds, of course, so hopefully you’ll be able to take Aciclovir too, but always safest to check with the professionals. Best wishes.

I have been taking one per day for a few years and have had quad. bypass and have a pacemaker plus the meds that go with that - no problem.

It sounds utterly crazy but I discovered by accident what helps cold sores for me is Vicks ointment. I just touched my lip by accident one time when one was just erupting and I'd st ill got Vicks on my finger. Of course you have to be sure it's not where you'd lick it and you have to use it the instant you feel one starting.
