Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone might know the answer to this question 🤔 I had heart attack in 2018 with stent fitted followed by double heart bypass in 2019..but I have a real problem with ankles swelling and being really cold to touch even when it's hot, also have very cold face and neck to touch. I'm not on any specific heart medication, clopidigril stopped in Jan 2020. My current meds are bisoprolol 2.5mg lisinpril 10mg aspirin 75mg and rousavastatin 20mg..no damage to my heart but trying to get an explanation is like trying to get blood out of a stone 😉
Ankle swelling and cold: Hi everyone... - British Heart Fou...
Ankle swelling and cold
The cold culprit is probably Bisoprolol. If you search Bisoprolol side effects cold extremities are a major side effect☹️. And the cocktail of meds are what many hearties are on so they’re trying to protect you. Sorry can’t be more helpful.
Hi missisf
Thank you for replying.
Apparently the low dose of bisoprolol shouldn't cause these problems according to the health care professionals. I'm trying to get an understanding as to why my ankles swell and puffy if I'm not on certain meds. Also I have no damage to the heart. I've tried Dr Google, not particularly helpful 🙂. Just wish they would give some information instead of saying just accept it!! How can you accept something if you don't understand it?
From reading other posts it seems quite common not getting information that might help.
As far as I can see (and I'm definitely no expert) there is nothing in your medication that jumps out to say which one is the culprit, if indeed medication is the cause of your problems. In combination, those medications are all providing some measure of protection against you having a further cardiac event and are very much along the lines of what many of us hearties take.
I am often cold to the touch, but I suffer from Raynaud's Syndrome and my feet and hands are usually cold. I am also usually cold on my lower back, particularly around the area of the kidneys. Taking Bisporolol certainly hasn't helped this condition, but I am only on a small dose and I think that the benefits outweigh the increased symptoms. Of course Aspirin thins the blood, so I think most of us feel the cold more to some extent.
I have suffered swollen ankles from various medications. Amlodipine was quite horrific and is now on my list of allergies. I also found the usual statins caused some swelling to a small degree, particularly when exercising. Having tried four, Rosuvastatin is definitely the best for me and at 10mg daily I have no side effects .
If I were you I would keep referring the problems that you are having back to your GP. You shouldn't have to "just accept it". That is not the answer if it is affecting your quality of life.
Hi gwp
I agree,I don't think it's medication causing the problem. I get that aspirin thins the blood so your gonna feel the cold 🥶..which is weird for me cuz I never wear a coat not even in winter but that's gonna change this winter 🥶😂. I was last year on amlodipine which may have swelled my ankles but not sure,no longer take it. It's not so much that I feel cold because generally I don't it's that I'm cold to touch,my ankles face and neck even sitting in the sun!! Apparently the swelling isn't believed to be heart related (don't have heart failure) but when I ask why it is then ? If I'm doing everything I'm supposed to? What am I doing wrong? All these problems have arose due to bypass surgery!! Maybe it's just me 😢..thou my gp did say that maybe in 10yrs time medicine may have advanced and we'll know the answer 😂😂
GP consultation would be best and urgently recommend that! Ankle swelling and feeling cold to touch doesn't sound right to me!I was on 2.5 mg Bisoprolol but not any more!
I also have now stopped Atorvastatin as my Cholesterol levels are good!
If I had swollen ankles and felt extremely cold! GP WOULD BE MY FIRST CALL DARLING!
So call him or her please! Right! 😊👍
Hi snowdrop
Done that...I'm considering dropping my bisoprolol to 1.25mg and see if that helps. Do you mind if I ask why your no longer taking bisoprolol?
I was forever tired and felt lethargic during the day! Struggled working! If you have vascular desease in your legs Bisoprolol is not recommended and is a contraindication! My bpm was quite low 55 - 58 when asleep or rested! I tried taking it evening, it made some difference but still was tired all the time! Quite frankly I stopped it totally before the last UK lockdown! Same with the statin! It made walks more strenuous and I felt totally tired after 30 minutes! Joke!Used to be so fit!
I am determined to get my fitness back again, walking and biking! Sadly work knackers me most of the time ❤️
Hope you get something sorted Madge ❤️👍
Have a good evening please!
Gonna rest up now 😊👍
