Hi new to this group I’m 39 and had a HT on nov 28th 2020 and had 3 stents fitted I’m on the normal medication from what I have read in this group for prevention of future HT I was just wondering does anybody else feel cold all the time. Also as I feel cold I keep putting on more layers on and keep coming out in heat spots is this normal thanks

Parky check with your GP. Most likely to be the meds. I still feel the cold more than I used too and I am 14 months after my surgery and I am a fair bit older but after checking with GP that being on blood thinners makes you feel the cold more. Like you I also get heat spots and could be down to extra clothes. In my case folliculitis again check with your GP clears up with antibiotics

Stay safe

Gil

Hello Parky1200,

Sorry to read your post having to face a heart event at such a young age must very difficult, I have the opposite to you, I am always warm, had open heart surgery 4 years ago and since then don’t seem to feel the cold. Think they might have done something to my thermostat when I was on bypass 😂 but as Gil says probably down to medication. Problem is we don’t all react the same way to the same medication.

must admit yes im feeling cold a lot i had my HA with stent to right artery in nov 20

Hi, 5 stents here, loads of meds and yes I now feel the cold having always been warm in the past. I used to regularly walk around with a t shirt on in icy conditions. Now though, I keep a blanket by the side of the chair. Wrap up warm and keep safe 👍😊

Hi, parky, sorry to hear about your HA. I also noticed being on the meds I tto feel pretty cold and so does my husband as he to had HA a year before mine, I think it's due to blood thinners, I mostly use water bottle if I'm sitting down in the house.

Hi Parky yes like other comments re meds, I had a triple bypass last March and I too feel the cold more, and I am suffering with small spots (itchy) and worse when I am warm. This has only happened since leaving Hospital, and now waiting for Dermatology appointment

Good luck

Hi Parky1200,

As you can see from the replies so far that we are all affected in different ways by our experiences after a heart event. I won't share my particular experiences as they add nothing to this conversation, but would say that like others I feel that the medication that you are on may be causing the issues you are experiencing.

You are probably now on an anti-coagulant drug such as Clopidigrel and this may make you feel the cold more. It may also mess with your ability to control your body temperature. I would speak to your GP about the problems you are having. There are alternative drugs available in most cases - finding the right ones for you is what is needed.

All the best,

Gerald

Yes I do I get cold real easy now was never like that before I had stents put in I think it must be the blood thinners that cause it I bruise easily as well and yes I come out in spot when I ask the doctor they put it down to my medication x

If you are on Bisoprolol or a similar beta-blocker then these meds are a likely cause. The patient information leaflet that comes with Bisoprolol says that cold hands and feet are a common side effect. I think it's because your heart rate is a bit slower and your blood pressure is a bit lower, so hands and feet get slightly less blood flow simply because they are further from your heart. Since starting Bisoprolol six months ago, my hands and feet are often cold and it makes me feel cold generally, especially when I'm sitting down and less active. It doesn't bother me but it's worth chatting with your GP to get some reassurance or different meds or maybe change the dose.
