One solution to my white coat blood pressure problem is to take Bisoprolol 1.25 .because it helps anxiety and it definitely helped , I started on 2.5 but horrid side effects especially asthma reflux and vivid dreams. So he suggested reducing dose. I still have the side effects, in addition beta blockers can cause hair loss and frequency even on such a low dose. I'm also on candesartan and lercanidipine . can anyone say if Bisoprolol side effects improve ? and if so how long does it take ?
Thanks

You could talk to your doctor about alternative beta blockers. Nebivolol for example should still help with anxiety, but it doesn’t interfere with melatonin levels in the same way as Bisoprolol so may not cause the same sleep disturbances.
Do you take your blood pressure yourself at home? If so why don't you submit the results to your GP, keep a log? It is ridiculous to take a Beta Blocker just to combat "white coat syndrome" if that is all it really is? I would never take a BB unless I absolutely had to.
My dose was increased from 5mg to 10mg in 1.25mg steps every two weeks, I had quite a few side effects at 7.5 and 8.75mg but by the time I got to 10mg they had stopped and I’m now side effect free. As others have said maybe discuss with your Doctor or pharmacist but in my experience side effects do get better or as in my case stop altogether
Hi I’m on 15mg the only side affect I get is feeling tired Iv been on it for about 8 years but only gone to the high dose for about 4 months. My doctor thought it was to high a dose but it was the cardiologist that that increased the dose
Hello, Middles. "White Coat Syndrome" (Blood Pressure at medical or nursing appointments rising because of feelings of uncertainties) is very common. If you measure your blood pressures at home in the period before the appointment, the professionals should take those readings into consideration. I note that you have not included Bisoprolol in your profile, yet you have written that the medical professional has adjusted the dose. If you find medical appointments stressful, then perhaps special arrangements could be made at thr appointment to reduce the stress.
I’ve taken 1.25 Bisoprolol for 2yrs+ and I often get cold feet/hands.My blood pressure is very steady away but the white coat syndrome always kicks in if in a surgery or A&E but at least I’m aware of this and accept it.
I don't know anything about Bisoprolol but I take Lercanidipine and have no side effects. You say you have 'white coat blood pressure problem'. That just means your blood pressure rises either when you are having it taken by a doctor/nurse in the surgery, or you are anxious when you take it yourself. But that doesn't necessarily mean you normally have BP problems. A lot of people have white coat syndrome but normal BPs. What you don't want is to be taking medication unnecessarily.
I don’t take Bisoprolol (I take Ramipril) but I do have ‘white coat hypertension’ … I keep a log of my BP and home and my GP and Cardiologist take my readings over the ones at the surgery / hospital and ‘white coat hypertension’ is on my notes … you really don’t want to be taking meds you don’t need … I’m no expert on these matters, but if your body doesn’t need the meds it might be why your side effects are worse? Have a chat with the BHF cardiac nurses, I’m sure they’ll point you in the right direction … best wishes and hope you gets your meds sorted x
I've been on Bisoprolol for 10 years and the side effects have never got better, I feel sleepy every day and suffer horrendous dizzy spells, my GP won't change them so I'm stuck with it, my advice is ask about alternatives.
I had side effects, one day i nearly fainted, so I stopped taking it. That must be over 2 years ago. Horrible drug to take. Since then I’m only on blood thinners.
