I stopped taking bisoprolol 3 1/2 months ago due to side effects (I was on 5 mg for almost 2 years for erractic BP, which ironically is better off of it). I wasn't so nieve to think that I wouldn't have any withdrawal symptoms. The first few months weren't bad: a day or two of anxiety, then fine for a few weeks. But the third month, HOLY #@%T!!It's like someone gave me a shot of adrenaline on top of already dealing with the extra adrenaline our bodies are trying to deal with that was suppressed for months and years while on bisoprolol.
I'm trying to deal with it more naturally by taking supplements. I've been taking Valerian root and Chamomile, which is helping. But because of the dose I've had to take to actually suppress the anxiety, I think it's also causing some fatigue.
I know we all are different, and depending on the dose of bisoprolol and the time on it, will affect how long it will take for our bodies to reset back to normal. But considering I never suffered any type of anxiety before bisoprolol, I was hoping my body would be able to reset quicker.
I am just soooo tired of dealing with this crap!! My patience with this, mentally and physically, is reaching its end!
Ok, vent over, lol. Thanks for listening!

Hello I am so sorry to read your struggle and withdrawal from Bisoprolol even after 3 months. That sounds pretty serious! I have been taking 2.5mg for many many years and I have just started coming off it. Literally have been now 6 days off and I start feeling ok, like my body is re-setting on its own routine.
My cardiologist told me Bisoprolol takes about 3 days to completely get out of our system, so I was really surprised and worried to read you have started experiencing anxiety 3 months off. Did it happen to you in the past? How do you know it's Bisoprolol related?
I am not obviously saying yours is not related to Bisoprolol, but I know for personale and friends experience that anxiety can manifest suddenly, even in people who have never experienced it before.
I wonder if your cardiologist has ever come off bisoprolol themselves!! Maybe it takes 3 days to become undetectable in your system but I believe the issue is then your body trying to sort itself out afterwards. I was only on 2.5mg for 12 months and stopping that was HARD!!
I can imagine, when I said it feels better I don't mean it feels great....still bpms flaring up randomly when standing up, or doing the odd thing. I've taken 2.5 mg for at least 7 years, and 5mg before my last surgery
Mostly similar to yours - random HR spikes, some quite long lasting (hours). I don't know if the anxiety was because of fretting about those or directly related to withdrawal. I took it very slowly, half a tablet for almost 2 weeks with no appreciable side effects so then went cold turkey which was a big mistake! I'd recommend anyone to allow at least a month of cutting down before stopping completely.
Very good to know, I'll keep a close eye to how I feel and restart it in case. That's what my consultant told me too. To see how I feel but if palpitations come back, to start taking it again
I was like that too. The first several weeks I was off of it, I only had a few days here and there of some anxiety. Then for whatever reason, it seemed like it amped up the 3rd month.I know it's bisoprolol. I've never experienced anxiety in my whole life, no matter how stressful the situation. And anxiety was actually one of the side effects, along with light headedness, that I experienced while on bisoprolol.Doctors LOVE to make that statement. It does take 3-4 days to physically leave your system. But that doesn't mean that your system will automatically be able to reset itself and handle all the adrenaline that has been suppressed from your body after all of those months or years you were taking it. I was hoping mine would. But of course I can't be that lucky!
You would need to ask your doctor. But a good reference to look it up is drugs.com. you can look up interactions between different drugs and supplements. When I put bisoprolol and chamomile in, I got no drug interaction.
No. I've been off bisoprolol for 3 1/2 months. I didn't take it while I was on bisoprolol. I started it about 3 weeks ago to help with the anxiety I am getting from the bisoprolol withdrawal. Everyone is different, but it didn't indicate any interaction between the two.
I always drank chamomile at times and I never noticed any interactions. I would normally drink it in the evening, and I used to take Bisoprolol in the mornings. Best asking your doctor though
be careful with chamomile I suffer anxiety and I started some chamomile caps first month ok then started getting high heart rate. The tea is safe maybe 2 a day. Now I still take chamomile only when I need it so far so good. There are a lot of natural supplements that can raise heart rate. Valerian can maybe ok for someone that can take it if they don’t get issues like me. See your doctor but at least look possible side effects of natural supplements
oh I see… I might as my doctor first as I am still on isopropyl. I have been getting bad anxiety over the last couple of weeks so I was looking to find something that would help and does not interact with my medication
