Dismissed from work, now what

Hello all Slight off the cuff message today but still relevant. I was dismissed from my job on Friday after very long service and not a single blemish on my record, however due to a very silly Company policy that was broken, I think they took the chance to dismiss. I do think they have taken the advantage to get me out as they know about my heart condition which will inevitably cause me to have time off sick and even potentially death in service.

My question really is with Dialated Cardiomyopathy, and a huge risk of ventricular tachycardia (had 4 instances in 3 months two with icd shocks so driving licence suspended for 6 months). What can I claim in benefits in the UK based on my condition?. I appreciate everyone's financial situation is different, but I know that finding another job isn't going to be easy and not one I may be able to work from home most of the time like my previous one. I'm mobile and can walk around, but I do get it out of breath easy and hate to rush VT again and lose my licence for even longer, not being able to drive is just another factor for job hunting.

I'm not one to ever shy away from work and I certainly don't to just go on benefits, it would drive me insane, it's just not me, I need to work. But friends are telling me that due to my heart condition I should be able to perhaps claim more than just job seekers allowance in the interim

Anyone have any experience of this

You should be able to apply for New Style Employment Support Allowance if you have paid NI contributions for the last twelve months. It lasts for twelve months. You will be put into the the group where you are considered 'incapable to work at the moment' ( providing sick notes). After three months you have an assessment. If you pass the assessment, you will be put into the support group (more money, no need to provide sick notes). You may be entitled to other benefits too - depending on your circumstances. Have a look at:

benefitsandwork.co.uk

This is a brilliant website. It costs £20 per year to join, but gives fantastic help and advice on filling out the correct forms etc. Good luck.

Many years ago I was let go from my job. I was advised by a friend to get in touch with, Acas which gives employees and employers free, impartial advice on workplace rights, rules. It was deemed I had been dismissed unfairly and because of my health it was discrimination. They were a great help and I got my job back. I won't lie, it was never the same between management and myself and at times horrible, but I had a job and independence again. It's really worth getting in touch with them they can answer, advise, and they are so kind.🤗
