Bisoprolol and asthma

Hallo there I have been on bisoprolol 2.5 mg for 2 weeks due to an ' out of the blue ' ventricular tachycardia episode which put me in hospital ( currently awaiting investigation) Just wondered if folks had successfully taken it alongside mild to moderate asthma. It has successfully brought down my heart rate and put my heart back on a regular rhythm most of the time but I feel like my asthma is playing up😞 Slight bronchial wheeze and lots of mucus on a morning, plus a little chest discomfort at night. Not sure what to do as I'm also recovering from a virus which could be complicating things. As bisoprolol doing it's job, not sure if I should look at alternative asthma meds or just try and wait it out and see if it's my lungs recovering from virus

I have moderate asthma and take Bisoprolol 2.5 mg for AF. I don't think my asthma is affected but then I don't know unless I stop taking it. It seems that yes, Bisoprolol can affect asthma. Alternatives like nebivolol do not affect asthma. However getting a GP to accept that Bisoprolol is causing worsening asthma will be hard. Even harder will be getting a GP to prescribe a more expensive alternative like nebivolol. I know I have tried! MM

I have mild asthma and take bisoprolol. My instinct is that the virus may be the culprit unless the wheeze pre dates it. There's been a virus going the rounds here ( NE England ) which has been causing a wheeze for typically a month to 6 weeks.

Ah. Well I am from Boro. So could. be. Might do some watchful waiting

Do check the leaflet that came with the medication but think that this drug does impact on those with asthma.

Not helped by the winter weather of cold, wind and high humidity all of which also impact on the lungs and might exaggerate any effect.

There are alternatives if you find there is a definite impact but might be best to leave it until the virus clears as that could definitely be worsening matters.

Not what you're looking for?
