Tinnitus and heart fialure? Is this a common side effect to the meds or linked to heart failure? Who gets it or has worsened since HF?

I have had tinnitus since my army days in my early 20s. Obviously its more noticeable on a night time and it is bad if you focus on it. Now in my late 30s and having heart attack and heart failure i have noticed it getting worse. Real loud! Almost to a point where i hear loud birds or sounds going off.. So loud!!

Its that bad i am going to get in to speak to the doc. I know theres not much for tinnitus but best to check its not something else. I am not sure if it maybe side effects to certain meds, dapagliflozin, entresto or betas. Or if its a symptom to the heart problem itself but its definitely louder. Maybe 5G or a spiritual awakening or Maybe just old age.

Do any of you notice this or know what it maybe?

I also have tinnitus and had it for many years although it does not intrude into my life too much. Perhaps I've had it so long I have just got used to it. Some medications do have a side effect of tinnitus so that's one for your GP to consider. Other than that as you say there is, as far as I am aware, no definite 'cure'. All you can do is to be extremely careful when it comes to sustained loud noises by wearing ear plugs or the like. I rarely go to the cinema but when I do I take earplugs, same for any loud music at gigs. I also ride a motorbike and use earplugs and since I play a sax am now thinking about musical earplugs. None of these are a cure of course just reduce any further deterioration. Finally there is a tinnitus helpgroup here , might be worth a look

Dear you

Another very interesting question from you and a distressing one at that.

Like you I have suffered with Tinnitus for many years, again like you I am ex military but without a doubt mine is from the drug Cisplatin which was given to me on the first time Cancer appeared.

I was lucky { not a word I use a lot } and it was recognised by the medical team treating me, I had all sorts of white noise machines including headphones etc to try.

All of them worked while I was using them, but the problem was when I stopped, the Tinnitus seemed a lot worse.

So I followed a course of hypnotherapy and learned to live with it which I did for many years.

Mine is the high pitched one that floats in the middle of my head, I am convinced that its volume gos up and down but have been told that this is impossible by those in the know.

So fast forward and the heart happening , once I had been told about what was going on { shocked like most } I found that I was tuned into my heart more and also my Tinnitus took on a new life.

It was clearer louder and certainly more prominent .

When I woke up from the bypass in the chaotic surroundings of ICU I knew something was different, the Tinnitus had gone.

It soon returned and when I asked my Cardiologist about it I was fobbed off a bit { but then he was more interested in my heart }

So today the Tinnitus is the same as ever, it lives with me not me with it.

I believe you could be right about the blood pressure idea, but I have a theory that you are just tuning into it with all that is medically going on with you.

Its really important { forget its bank holiday } and get any changes checked out.

Hope any of the above rambling is of help to you, I am not medically trained but certainly am a fellow sufferer.

Take care

thanks for sharing this blue. all the best

Hello :-)

I suffer with it had it before my heart issues and medications I now take even though I have noticed it is a little bit worse than it used to be

You could speak with your Doctor as you have not suffered before so very well could be a med you take causing it and they could try you on something different and hopefully it will stop as I know it is not pleasant and feels like it is driving you mad at times

Let us know how you get on :-) x

I developed tinnitus in late 2020 during the lockdown in U.S. It is a very loud screeching noise in both ears—worse in right ear. Some days, I can tune it out unless I think about or focus on it.

My HA was in March 2022, so I am not sure that there is any connection between the two .

Hi sorry to hear you’re suffering with tinnitus. My husband was in the army and he suffers with tinnitus also. I find that very strange. He’s not got heart failure but I do, and I take all the medications you’ve mentioned thank goodness I don’t have tinnitus because it must be awful. I think he gets used to his, but sometimes he says it’s worse that other times. Maybe that’s him telling me to shut up 😁
