Thank you for your sound advice – I await a phone call from GP to discuss.
I'm surprised nobody picked up this before…the pharmacist was just doing what she was prescribed by the GP and the GP was just doing what she was told to do by a cardiac rehab nurse!
Years ago I was on same dose, intermittently. After my heart attack and long list of meds, my atorovastin is now 80mg/daily. I have been on this for several months, no ill effects and my cholesterol levels are at there lowest.
Started the Amiodarone on 19 November (usual: 3 x 200mg a day for a week, then two, then (as now) one a day.
Apart from occasional dizzy spells, the meds seem to be controlling the AFib for which they were prescribed, so I don't want to take the risk of Atorvastatin interfering with them. Review with cardiac surgeon in March.
Hopefully by March then the afib will be under control. I'm assuming you know that Amiodarone can have some very serious side effects. You really don't want to be on that any longer than is absolutely necessary.
When I started on amiodarone well over three years ago, I too read about the possible interaction with simvastatin (in my case) but was advised that as my statin dose was 20mg there was no problem - and there never has been a problem. I’m not on the other medications that you take but I hope this helps.
I take Bisoprolol 2,5 mg x 2 a day; Apixaban 5 mg x 2 a day; Amlodipine 5 mgs one a day;
I take atorvastatin 10 mg daily. My decision to use the lowest possible dose. Drugs repair one thing and make others bad; always trying to use the smallest dose. I also read the leaflet warning message that some drugs affect the effect of others.
I was prescribed Amiodarone early this year for my fluttering heart and stop the At Fib in 3 days. It was too strong for me and had nose bleeding. If Amiodarone didn't work I would have had a Cardioversion.
you have to observe what is triggering AtFib. Now I just rest and sleep if I need.
Thank you for your reply – my feeling, too, is to take a lower dose and I will ask cardiac nurse/doctor about that.
No idea what causes the AFib – I had my leaking mitral valve replaced and assumed that would fix the AFib, but won't know till review the situation in March (and possibly not even then!).
