stir crazy

I didn’t expect this to come along, I’ve not only been in hospital for 10 days but I’ve not been allowed out of the room because apparently I caught skin mrsa ( normally harmless) at the hospital itself not outside. The tests r now negative but still I’m in here and to say I’m getting stir crazy is an understatement. Also I sleep in a small reclining chair because of the COPD and am only sleeping in snatches, so I’m shattered.

To scared to say anything cos of how they r helping but I could be in here for at least another week

that’s just it, I’ve told them, 11 days in here yet I’m clear, they ignored it, my COPD is drying out my throat / lungs badly,

Speak to the ward sister or manager, not just a nurse. I had a terrible time getting my painkiller on time; they just couldn't understand that it had already worn off long before it was due ( strong opiates that can no longer be increased) and they'd do everyone else's before mine so mine could be an hour late plus the previous half hour when it hadn't been working. One night I just broke down I was in so much pain and the ward manager came to see me. I got it on time after that. When you have more than one condition they tend to ignore everything but their speciality or just not understand how to help.

hi

They can be pretty tough and uncaring in a way, although I’m neg reg mrsa they have to have a second neg reading, that will b tues, the problem is results are not coming back for days even though it’s a hospital

They said u could walk up and down in corridor to check how far I can walk, I def and got further than the last 6 months, breathing was ok but I had a lot of pain caused by not moving-I’m seizing up, they didn’t care

Bless you, hope you're soon released for good behaviour. 😂

Bless you what a time you are having, hope you soon get released and go home and be in your own surroundings. I know they are doing the best for you but there is no place like home. Dig in one day this will just be a bad memory and you will be well again. In the interim let them take care of you and look forward to your health getting back on track. Best wishes.

I have some idea how you feel. I was supposed to be out after a test, but the vomiting virus struck, and the test was postponed, I was running round the walls after a few days.

I know how you feel. I was in solitary confinement for 2 months because I got cdiff from all the antibiotics they were feeding me for endocarditis. I left hospital with ptsd. Xx

Good morning....I was in hospital for a month after open heart surgery due to catching a hospital infection that affected my blood. Unfortunately there might not be any beds available on the ward but if you are now clear....hopefully it won't be long before you can go home. At least you have been seen to and are in the best place whilst recovering . Hope you get discharged soon and back to your home comforts x

hi

I’m clear but I can’t go home cos I haven’t even had the op yet. I was so ill when I came in 13 days ago I and my family didn’t think I’d last another 2 weeks. I have been posting on here, turns out my lungs were smothered in fluid and I was sucking air like a goldfish. Oxygen levels of 88-90 at the time, now I’m getting levels of 96%. So they r continuing to optimise me for the operation. 4 injections per day of fusemide and a season ticket to the loo. All going well at present.

hope you’ve got en-suite facilities. 🤞you’ll get your operation soon and that your solitary confinement ends soon X

I'm so sorry....put it down to my early morning bleariness!! I didn't take on board that you hadn't had the op yet. I know it's hard with what you have been through but try and be positive and keep thinking that the better you are before your op, the better you will be in recovery. It's upsetting but the doctors and staff will be doing their best for you to make sure you are in the best position pre op won't they? The furosemide loo visits are frustrating....I've been there lol but at least it gets rid of the extra fluid!!! Fingers crossed this all gets sorted for you as soon as possible x

Oh bless you. Are you allowed visits? Can people bring in things to occupy you?

hi

Yes I can have visits, I’m mrsa clear now, and they know that me being in here for 13 days is starting to have an adverse effect.I only want to walk up the corridor to see how much my breathing has improved, and pop down stairs for some fresh air.

I would be the same. Being that inactive and confined must feel counter intuitive to the aim of getting well. Have you got a window? That always helps me, just to hear the outside world and feel the air flow.Glad you can have visitors. Get them to bring you in plenty of reading material, crosswords etc, or whatever interests you. Meditation apps on phone, mindful colouring and some good books?

I feel your pain, pre my bypass they put me in a single room on my own waiting for a vacant slot for the operation. I was not allowed out of bed and had a heart monitor attached 24x7.It took 3.5 weeks before I got the operation and with it being COVID time my wife was allowed to visit once a week. I nearly went mad ! 🤣

I was only in for 4 days on a ward that faced south (HOT) and had no window that opened - not even a phone signal. I had my mobility scooter with me so I unplugged the heart monitor and went down the miles of corridors to get outside and even then I was going stir crazy. I admire you for putting up with it for so long.

Gee whizz all this and they haven’t even got their hands on your heart yet. If that were me l would practically be crippled l have extensive arthritis and need to move about.

Although it sucks it’s also good that they want to make sure you have no more mrsa cuz that is a nasty bug. During my recovery especially at home l thought l would never get better it seemed to take so long. I had to tell myself “this will take as long as it takes”all the time and here l am 10 months later much improved. Try to roll with it you will get there, God speed with your healing and surgery and recovery.
