I have been monitoring my blood pressure for my GP. I've been told by a triage doctor at the practice that a reading of 95 is normal for a lady of 84. Has anyone else been given this advice?
Diastolic reading: I have been... - British Heart Fou...
Diastolic reading
Seems high for diastolic. My diastolic readings are usually in the 60s eg 110/65.
90/60 is the lowest . Distolic is the second value
Highest should be 120/80
140/90 is acceptable( pre hypertension )
From the BHF Website:
’Normal blood pressure is usually considered to be between 90/60 mmHg and 120/80 mmHg. For over-80s, because it’s normal for arteries to get stiffer as we get older, the ideal blood pressure is under 150/90 mmHg (or 145/85 mmHg at home).’
My GP told me that a home reading of up to 145/85 (systolic/diastolic) is OK or 150/90 in a medical setting. So 95 is a little bit high , but not too much. A lot depends on your medication.
In my 50s I was sent home with one of the 24-hour monitors and averaged something like 140/90. Doctor said it was high, but not high enough to medicate.
Post-OHS for two valves I was put on 1.25mg bisoprolol to slow my heart rate a bit, which also has the nice side effect of bringing my blood pressure down.
My GP has said 80 diastolic is ideal for my age, so high 90s is no concern! I've got a problem with that. My father died from a stroke and my mother a heart attack. Just keep myself as healthy as possible by natural measure, if only I could walk to a bus stop.
