Hi, I am taking getting constant high readings on my diastolic. I have been ask to self monitor for a week. Does anyone else have this. For instance this morning it was 107/88 ? The bottom figure is alway above 80 but the top number less than 120 ? I am taking 2.5 Ramipril once a day. Thanks

I’m no medic but I don’t think it’s that unusual, but to get a clearer picture you can look at the website of the specialist charity Blood Pressure UK

The new US maximum BP for the over 65's is 140/90. Below this is not addressed.

Hello Teddy2022,

As Happyrosie suggests, check out the following:

bloodpressureuk.org/

I'm currently doing a 7 day monitoring of my blood pressure. So far, my morning diastolic readings are 90 to 94, and evening readings are 80 to 84. Unlike you, however, my systolic readings are also high, between 148 and 168 (a.m. and p.m). Once the readings are complete, I'll see my GP. I do, by the way, take Ramipril.

Regarding your own blood pressure, you could speak to a cardiac nurse through the BHF:

Wishing you well 🙂🦉

Any BP around 120/80 is very good. Your top readings are excellent. The bottom reading will come down somewhat if you increased your Ramipril dose under your GP's guidance-because you are on a very small dose of Ramipril. The usual dose range for Ramipril is 1.25mg to 10mg per day but it needs to be increased slowly. Regards

I also have raised diastolic, up to about 100 without medication. 57 male. My mother also had HT. I started on Ramipril about 4-5 years ago. 2.5mg is a starter dose, I moved up to 5mg then 10mg. Then I switched to Losartan Potassium last year after a prolonged dry cough (a common side effect with Ramipril). Other than the cough Ramipril is Ok. I have a couple of friends who also take it. I lost some weight which also helped lower my diastolic readings. I am around 80-90 these days

Thanks for replying. My doctor has now prescribed me 2.5mg Ramipril twice again. The consultant next week may alter it again. I am not over weight in fact I am slightly under with a small frame. Exercise really well and eat a vegetarian very healthy diet. Do not smoke or drink any alcohol.
