Grade 2 LV Diastolic Dysfunction

Hi everyone, this has just been picked up on a recent Echocardiogram. I’ve tried Googling it but results all refer to Heart Failure. Is this a precursor to HF? I already have an aortic root aneurysm, Atrial Fibrillation and recently had a Pacemaker fitted and was born with valve disease and had replacement BAV.

So, now I feel like this is just another nail in my coffin when I see the words Heart Failure and read there is no cure for HF. Very scary!

Dr Google doesn't know your personal situation, nor do even more trustworthy medical sites. It sounds a complex situation to me which needs proper interpretation by a cardiologist, so do make sure you get called in to have it all explained. Diastolic dysfunction merely means the heart is not properly relaxing before the next pumping stroke. There may be treatment options.

The waiting, not knowing and consequent anxiety will probably be the hardest thing. Maybe have a look at online resources on anxiety such as at cci.health.wa.gov.au/Resour...

hi Rosie I’ve just been told I have HF after an echo, severe left ventricle impairment EF of 35. I’ve got CVD and have had triple bypass and a pacemaker I also have AF and flutter, 2 ecg this week and lots of ectopics and irregular heart beats, and to cap it all blood pressure up and down, apart from that I’m fine 🙄oh apart from the osteo arthritis !!!!

I have had another3 drugs added and bisoprol increased to 10mg. I told the HF nurse I was feeling so much worse with all this and she said this is quite normal and after as much as a few weeks then I should start to feel better. Next appointment 30th Jan I’ll follow you on your journey keep posting

I’ve being going back over old Echo results and discharge letters and ten years ago my EF was 65%, then earlier in 2023 that had dropped to 55-60% in March 2023, then to 50% in June 2023 and by November it is just described as Grade 2 (moderate) LVDD. I had an emergency Pacemaker back in June and was sent on a course of Cardiac Rehab which I am still attending. I’m absolutely fine but have noticed recently that I am getting a bit breathless on exercise and I also get extremely cold. Hope all goes well for you on the 30th.

Hi Rosie I think you need to find out what it all means. I’ve been in heart failure for over 20yrs. First if they’re saying your heart isn’t working properly you need to know what percentage it’s functioning at. The norm is 50% and above. Some people do come out of heart failure, their hearts begin to work when they start certain medications, have surgery or lifestyle changes. It’s not always doom. My heart function EF23%. I’m still able to carry on. See your doctor or cardiologist if you’re worried about the diagnosis and get them to explain the results. The echo would say what your EF is. Originally mine was 43% and I thought I was dying, I was in my 40s, now I’m heading to 62. All the best.

Thank you all for your responses, much appreciated. Just read through recent discharge letters etc. and just seems to be referred to as Grade 2 (moderate) diastolic dysfunction and nothing else. I will make an appointment with my GP to see if I can get more clarity. Even the NHS website search engine directs you to the Heart Failure information page. A bit worrying as not what I wanted to hear!
