Epleronone side effects?

A penny may have dropped.

I have been on Epleronone (mainly for BP) for about 4 years, after a challenging aortic dissection repair. I recently had an ablation for atrial flutter and whilst waiting was put on Diltiazem to slow my rate. This dropped my BP too low so the GP agreed I should come off the Epleronone, which corrected the BP, and I was off it for about 3 months. After my semi-successful ablation I restarted Epleronone (no longer needing Diltiazem for its original purpose).

Whilst (in my complex situation) it's hard to tell what's causing my lack of energy, I have recently noticed a regular daily pattern. I'm OK when I wake, then during breakfast (when I take the Epleronone) I feel my energy wane and by the end of the morning I am absolutely wiped out. This carries on through lunch and early afternoon, but by late afternoon the wipe-out feeling recedes and I can even get out and do some gentle gardening. So I am wondering if the Epleronone is the cause. Its half life is 4 to 6 hours and though film coated is not slow release.

Obviously I shall try a bit of a controlled trial off it to test this theory, but I'm just wondering, therefore, whether anyone else has had experiences they can pin down to Epleronone? I know my GP is a little wary of it, having had to take someone off it due to it causing sleep problems.

Thanks in advance

C.

and if you don’t get any useful responses here, have a word with one of the pharmacists that your doctor’s group of surgeries employs, or your dispensing pharmacist. They’d be the experts advising your own general practitioner

I am taking a cocktail of meds , one being Eplerenone. The tiredness and shear exhaustion that I feel at times I have associated with the beta blocker bisoprolol that I take. I only say that as I was originally taking spiroloctane ( excuse spelling ) but had to swap to Eplerenone due to side effects and still felt tired and exhausted.

I was on Eplerenone for 15 months and had no issues with tiredness, but it did affect me physically on my chest, a well known issue for some males. I couldn't wait to get off the medication and it took a few years to get back to normal. The only medication that made me tired was the beta blocker Bisoprolol.

I take Epleronone and one other BP med and had similar side effects to you, Cliff_G. I now take them at night and it has helped. I feel better in myself but still get a degree of exhaustion.

Thanks. I take mine in the morning as they are diuretic, so didn't want to be up in the night (more than I already am!). Will see what the trial off them does, then maybe try at night.
