I am 15 weeks post avr surgery. Recovery was going well but am now having dizzy spells, lasting only 5-10 seconds but leaving me drained and nauseous for a coulple of days. At the last one a few days ago my blood pressure went up to 180 over 95 and heart rate 110. GP has no idea what is causing it and has referred me to stroke clinic. I have also been told to stop driving. Pretty fed up and scared. Has anyone else had similar symptoms?

Dizziness
l don’t understand why your GP has referred you to a stroke clinic but then l am not a medic. It could be your ears causing vertigo, or it could even be the after effects of anaesthetic which takes a while to get out of your system. Your numbers probably went up with anxiety as dizziness can be frightening. I expect you will have a long wait before you get an appointment, so if it was me l would take myself off to A/E and get checked out and put my mind at rest. The stress of this will not aid your recovery. Take care.
Take the advice to go to the stroke clinic, as you have a possible risk of stroke. These clinics are about prevention, diagnosis and have a good understanding of the close connections between the heart, the brain and all the components interacting. If your dizziness and elevated blood pressure are not related to your cardiovascular system, they will refer you on from there. Presumably you are also being reviewed by your cardiologist or cardiac surgeon? If you have any new or different, more severe or prolonged episodes in the meanwhile, call an ambulance. Best wishes
I had AvR 3 years ago and since then have had bouts of dizziness . I was referred to the stroke clinic and was told it was not stroke related but vertigo . Like you I feel nauseous and unwell but if I lie down they pass quickly .
I think most likely they are a side effect of the medication. Over the last 3 years they have decreased and I’ve only had 1-2 episodes this year . I’ve seen numerous medical people about them and one suggested it was migraine related . No one has suggested they are anything sinister.
Good luck

Yes I have stopped driving because of my dizziness, I add a 24 hour ecg fitted which picked up a fast heart beat. Still waiting from the cardiologist about what treatment I will be getting
it could be low blood pressure so drink enough water each day or could be tablets or vertigo but that has a spinning sensation or something affecting your ears? Or it could be to do with your heart? Have you taken a new or different tablet recently perhaps. Mine was low blood pressure and I drink enough so if you are prone to low bp because of what is wrong with your heart even drinking more water doesn’t stop it. They can’t up the strength of my tablets because of it so I had to have a pacemaker along with other reasons so regulate fast beats. Best of luck and hope you find out what is causing it. X
That's good then I’m waiting for a head MRI as I’ve lost hearing in left ear of low sounds and high pitched sounds echo and are distorted especially with background noises like when I’m in a cafe/restaurant etc. My dizziness stooped though a couple of months ago so that was probably caused by my low bp not my ears. Should hear soon as they said 6 weeks to wait and it’s the 5th week now. Best of luck hope they solve it for you. Joy x
