Dizziness after taking beta blockers

Does anyone get dizziness a few hours after taking beta blockers and not straight away? I am now taking sotalol but have been on bisoprolol and atenolol. Also do you find yourself waking up early restless?

Thank you

Hi there,

I certainly did when I first started Bisoprolol, I was very dizzy for most of the day. I read that beta blockers fully hit your system after 2 hours. It did settle down but took a few weeks. The same for early waking, I didn’t sleep past 5am.

Hope things settle down for you soon, it’s hard going through the settling in period isn’t it?

I’m on day 3 of switching to Atenolol and the loss of Bisoprolol is giving me rebound symptoms, I’m picturing a Game of Thrones type battle going on inside. Lol!

Take care

E

Thank you for your reply. Are you changing to atenolol because of side effects of bisoprolol? I didn’t get on with either of them unfortunately. I hope sotalol is better but I’m not convinced!

Best wishes

Hi again,

Yes, Bisoprolol was causing bad hair loss and whilst I tolerated the other side effects, this one was enough for my GP to say I should come off it. Did you have rebound symptoms when you switched from Biso to Atenolol?

I hope Sotalol is better for you once you get past the initial stage.

I didn’t notice rebound when coming off bisoprolol but was feeling rough anyway! I’m not sure how long it takes to get used a change but hope it’s not too long.

Best wishes to you

Yep, standard effect on first taking them, dizziness lasted a couple of weeks for me. Early waking/problems dropping off to sleep/waking at 3am on the dot every night/poor sleep/nightmares/vivid dreams are also par for the course, for me anyway, sadly these haven't gone away. I just learned to live with them.

Just my own personal view, but yes I experienced a lot of dizziness when I was prescribed Bisoprolol. Thankfully I no longer have to take it anymore. For me it was really the worst feeling ever. I have never been so glad to be off the damned things. For me it took me about 2 to 3 weeks before I felt that the drug was fully out of my system.

Yes I take bisoprolol and I get a little dizzy during the day, also I am having issues with a runny nose, I am waiting for GP to see if I can have a replacement for Bisoprolol

I was experiencing dizzy spells when getting up from sitting - seeing stars and having to sit back down for a moment. I'm taking bisoprolol & ramipril (1.25mg each). I was taking them both in the morning as originally directed to. My BP was routinely about 95/65 for the day. After speaking with my GP and a week of monitoring was advised to take BP med before going to bed. Dizzy spells gone. Mid day BP of around 100/70 now.
