Hello. I am looking for a bit of advice. I had an ablation done last year but am still under the cardiologist as i still get very out of breathe and had swollen ankles. I suffer with high blood pressure as well. I recently saw my cardiologist and he prescribed me spironolactone for the ankle swelling but they gave me bad headaches so he changed me to Furosemide, I also take lisinopril for the high blood pressure. Since being on the Furosemide i have been feeling really dizzy and feeling faint and my blood pressure has been really low. My doctor halved the dosage of the lisinopril last week but i am still feeling really dizzy. I spoke to a new doctor today who said that furosemide reacts badly with lisinopril so has told me to stop taking the furosemide as the ankle swelling was quite mild and the high blood pressure was more important to control. My question is has anyone heard of any other way of helping fluid retention without tablets, my sister said she thought she had heard about some proteins affecting water retention?? I really don't want to go back on the tablets but i must admit apart from the dizziness they did work . Many thanks in advance .

Furosemide and dizziness
Hi Sals
If you can I would ask your Pharmacist they tend to be really good at what clashes with something else, but I would be surprised if your Cardiologist didn't know. All three are pretty routine Heart Meds although I am not an expert. I have been on all three with no side effects.
Take Care and Stay Safe
i was surprised when the doctor said they didn't go well together. unfortunately i seem to be just stuck on tablets by my cardiologist and told he will see me in 6 months, I would really like to know why i have the swollen ankles and shortness of breath in the first place. He just says i am making him work for his money - seeing him twice in a year i don't think so! Thanks for your reply i will talk to the pharmacist .
Stay safe x
I have been on Lisinopril for a number of years with two periods of Furosemide alongside. The last time was after my bypass when I developed an electrolyte imbalance and gained 9kg of water. No issue either time. An elderly gentleman I know swears by dandelion tea as he didn't get on with water tablets. Just run it past your GP first.
Nettle tea or dandelion tea helps get rid od excess water retention. Both quite palatable but you can add sweetener if you wish!
