Hi, Does anyone have post surgery heart flutters.? I am ten weeks post surgery and still having palpitations/flutters, told I am not in a fib and it is just the heart settling down but it does scare me!

also makes me feel a bit giddy. Have others had similar after valve replacement?

I’m in hospital now on day 5 after cabg and I have it. My monitor I’ve been attached to permanently shows a very smooth rhythm and the doctors are not concerned.

I asked my consultant on the ward round about this yesterday and he finished my sentence before I could deceiving it perfectly.

For me it’s still so strong I feel like I’m being moved when sat in my seat. He explained that to do my cabg the pericardium is cut open to access the heart but not closed up.

This gives the heart a new found freedom with more space to expand when pumping. He said it’s completely normal and will settle over time and I will get used to it so that has set my mind at ease.

Hope it helps.

I have constant pulsation in neck. Apparently I will be more aware of it as my valve is working better as it is new.

They have given me small dose of beta blockers but not sure I want it. This is to Lower heart rate and help with flutters. They did say post flutters are normal after Op.

I do have a pacemaker now which implanted after surgery as unfortunately I was in heart block. They adjusted that which helped with pacing.

I think we are a little different. I would say ask the doctors. I have been constantly emailing the congenital heart nurses direct as they are good at finding out and replying and get things done.

To be honest finding it hard to adjust too with the feelings and weird stuff you feel on inside. What’s normal and not normal?! As it it’s early days.

Agree, I think we have been through so much we find it hard to believe that it’s all going smoothly and panic at every bump in the road. Also think we are given very little information. I am on Bisoprolol with no adverse side effects although my heart rate is quite high sitting around 85. How long ago was your op?

Just over 8 weeks post op. Yes mine sitting heart rate is very up and down really . Mostly in the 80s too some times 70s.

Yes sent home with same beta blockers not knowing why to be honest. Think it was the heart rate thing and post op .

The emotional trauma and the changes you feel is hard to deal with because they said my valves were working fine .

I have pacing issues wich is a different thing hence my pacemaker .. they put in 2 weeks later and that’s another challenge. (Was not expecting to have)

I’m only 40 born with the congenital condition but felt fine until I had this operation which makes even more hard to deal with.

Did you get 8 week or there about check post Operation ?

Hope it goes all ok.. I know lot of people says takes least 6 months to get settled and used to it all. 😀

also by any interest what the amount of beta blockers did they give you. Mine was 2.5mg
