Post surgery symptoms

Hi there

My husband had a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft and a few other things, 2 weeks ago. He's been out of hospital for a week now. He can manage stairs and very short walks around the garden. My worry is that he keeps getting hot and then shivering. I did read that after this major surgery that this is common. Can anyone tell me if this right please? He looks so unlike himself at the moment, which is understandable, I know. He was on antibiotics for three days after discharge. I will contact GP on Monday maybe for another blood test.

Just looking for some reassurance. Has anybody else had these symptoms? Thanks in advance

Hello :-)

I had a triple Bypass and can only answer on my own experience and yes I kept going hot and cold but after everything our bodies have just been through I think these things sometimes happen while it is trying to settle down

You said he was on antibiotics just for 3 days I am guessing that might have been that he had an infection as if that is the case the infection may have not fully cleared up as we can go hot and cold if we have an infection so when you contact your Doctors I would mention that as well

He won't look like himself at this stage but try not to worry about that it is very early days and he will eventually start to look like himself again :-)

At 3 weeks managing the stairs and been able to walk round the garden sounds to me he is on track some can do more at 3 weeks but that was all I could do and I was told that was fine

Our recoveries go at different paces and slowly what you can do you build on it when you feel ready

Give the Doctors a ring on Monday and see if they will check him over for your peace of mind if nothing else and if you think he needs checking over before then of course ring 111 and get their advice :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Sounds like he is really doing very well, I know some seem to spring back so quickly, but I was certainly no different to your husband, I progressed from there to short walks up and down my street. I listened to my body, slept when I needed it, a lot, and tried to increase or maintain my exercise each day. Sometimes the wounds played up and walking was uncomfortable, but I did what I could. After a few weeks I started the cardio rehab classes, and they gave me the confidence to do more exercise without fear of opening something up or keeling over. I still do them now a year later, because it's good for you and nice to be able to chat with people who 'get it'. As I've written on my own post, I do have a little pstd about leaving where I feel safe, but I'm working on that. I mention that for checking on your husbands mental wellbeing in the future, as well as the physical. Good luck at the doctors, it's worth checking.

he’s doing well and so are you. Do contact GP. Hot and shivering can be sign of infection so wound may need a review. Take care 🦊x

Hi I took my husband to our wonderful GP who contacted the hospital. Hubby has now been admitted and they’re doing more tests.

Thank you so much. I will call GP (thankfully we have a good one) tomorrow. I've showered and dressed him this morning and he's walked a little round the garden. He's now sitting outside under an umbrella 👍
