farxiga

doctor wants me to take farxiga for heart failure issues. Seems like there are a lot of side effects. Including frequent urination. Has anyone used farxiga and how did it make you feel. I think it is a drug for diabetes but apparently helps heart failure.

My heart function improved a lot when I started taking it. I did urinate a lot and got rid of a lot of fluid but now it’s slowed down. It’s just another tablet added to my cocktail and it works.

thanks Deejay62. I travel a lot and worry about bathroom breaks. How did your heart improve? EF numbers?

I don’t know. It was 10% then it went to 23%. I was able to do more once the fluid came off so that helped. I’ve since had other meds added. The only thing is I’m struggling with low blood pressure because most of them reduce BP.

Wow. 10% EF. Mine was 15 and hasn’t gone anywhere since my HA back in October 22.

I was on a heart transplant and ICD list, but now off both of them.

I’m pretty fit now - regular exercise, better food, no drinking (honest) or smoking - but my EF won’t improve and I do have low BP - avg 92/59.

Apart from a bit of breathlessness walking up stairs or hills, I don’t notice the low BP. The cardio nurses on phase three said my HR shouldn’t exceed 122 but I regularly get it above 150 and have seen 177 with no after effects.

I’m also on the Dapagliflozin and I don’t think it makes me pee any more often than a healthy male of my age (63).

Hi Deejay. I’ve probably asked before but what is your bp for most of the day? Cheers

Is it low shortly after eating?

I haven’t done a reading after eating. It feels low all the time but it feels lower when I move around. I can only drink 1 1/2 litre a day so that doesn’t help.

I will do one after eating and see.

yeah. I’ve had my issues too. Just had a carotid blood flow test and I have a blocked vertebral artery. But no treatment suggested. Not sure what the future holds for me. Trying to get my life in order so others don’t have to deal with voluminous paperwork. I am 74 and have lead a full life. Jesus is my next stop.

Hello there...I've been taking Dapagliflozin for nearly three years now along side other medications for my heart failure with no side effects at all. Since taking it my condition has improved so much. Good luck ☺️

I started on Dapa for my HF 20 months ago. No side effects that I’m aware of. The only matter that I was made aware of was that, if ever I become unwell and that involves my not eating, I should stop taking Dapa.

I’ve taken Forxiga for the last 18 months with no side effects. Very happy to be taking it.

I‘m on it for a year. No side effects. I pee maybe one more time during the day than I did before but it’s actually good because the fluids get out of your body which makes you fitter. My EF was 10-15%, was 37% 5 months after medication and I‘m sure is even higher now.

Hi I’ve been taking this drug which was added to my meds cocktail about a year ago. My husband has also been prescribed this recently no real problems ( apart from tiredness and low blood pressure) my heart function has improved to my knowledge, still waiting to find out about my husbands.Good luck 😊X.

Have taken that ,for over a year, had no problems with it,yes I do urinate alot but that is a minor problem. If it helps to solve your heart ,it is worth it.

farxigo is expensive in US thru Medicare. Is this med inexpensive in UK?

Hi - we don't pay for medications, procedures, operations up front in the UK. Every working person pays a small amount each month along with their taxes, which funds our National Health Service.

I’ve just been through the same worries as you, having started on forxiga two weeks ago. I needn’t have worried: I’ve had no side effects other than peeing slightly more than usual, but I stress only slightly so no problem.

Hi, I take it for diabetes, hower my cardiologist tells me it's also good for the heart, so along with the other heart meds I take I consider it a bonus. Unfortunately I do believe I pee more but that's minor irritation!

I’ve been on it for about 6 weeks and no side effects that I know of. Bp is lower but below 90/60 is considered low. I do have to p a couple more times at night and also during day. But I drink a lot of water to keep from getting dehydrated. When you travel just stop before you need to go because it comes with a force if you wait too long. My cardiologist at one of the top heart hospitals in the U.S. said it is a great heart med combined with Entresto. Combined they result in lower bp but I’ve been told that 90/60 is fairly common with heart meds and it’s ok. All the best.
