Hi
I have been told by my cardiac nurse that this is the new whiz drug for heart failure, it is already being prescribed for type 2 diabetes. Has anyone been given it for Heart failure or does it not have NICE approval yet?
I’m on it, not got HF. But I’m boarding on type 2. Same as you, sold to me as the new whizz kid med for heart function.
According to cardiologist in late December the drug hadn't yet got approval but I believe its fairly imminent
Hi, do you know the criteria for being prescribed this drug?
My husband has heart failure and his cardiologist is looking to put him on Entresto which apparently is only given to those with severe HF, his last echo showed his HF to be moderate to severe. He's soon to have another echo & we're hoping that his heart function and out of the "severe" bracket but his cardiologist wants to start treating him aggressively to get his heart in the best condition possible.
I started Entresto about 6 months ago, they phased me on re dosage and I didn't notice any effect until final increase to 97/103 mg when I felt much more energy. I looked at the trial data and it was all very positive so based on that and my experience I'm a fan!
I've just hiked up second highest mountain in Western Ghats (2640m) so all good at present despite a less than favourable prognosis when I had my CA two years ago.
Thank you for your reply. I've heard Entresto is great if you can tolerate it but we've been told it can only be prescribed if your HF is severe. We're hopeful that my husbands next echo will show his heart function has improved in which case they won't give him Entresto.
Well done you, very impressed with your mountaineering. How was your breathing at the top?
The hospital wanted me to take Entresto some years ago but I have very low blood pressure so it's not suitable for me.I am getting very out of breath at the moment and have fluid retention which I hopefully can discuss with a HF nurse asap. Took Furosomide for years and changed to Cardestarten. Does anyone here get fluid on eyelids and face?
Feel that is where mine begins but now got puffy legs. Not been this bad for years and quite worrying.
Having a new PM on 29th Jan.Will ask cardiologist if I can have some.I want to be Superwoman again.Lost all my powers lately.
Would you let me know if you find out the criteria for being prescribed this, pretty please
Will do Lezzers.I`d better write it down, Brain cells diminishing daily.Guess what,TV given up,I`m in self imposed quarantine until tomorrow which is why I`m on line more than usual.Watch out tomorrow when I`m of the antibiotics.Lock up you husbands I`m on the loose again!!!
Hi I just wondered if you mean dapagliflozin. I read this was the newest hf medication development.
Dapaglifloxin is for type 2 diabetes?
Sorry if I hot it wrong...
Hi genteel. I think the poster may have just spelt it wrong. It is the same meds that is used to treat type 2 diabetes and this year its going to be licensed for heart failure
Thanks for the clarity Lezzers.
My hf is at the level for not use of entresto but I am always intrested in new drug developments like this latest dapagliflozin for hf. I am on 10mg of Ramipril and 10mg of bisoprolol at the moment. I just wondered if it was worth speaking to a cardiologist to enquire about conditions for future use.
Yes definitely talk to your cardiologist about what's out there. My husband is mainly intolerant to the usual meds for HF. But because he's getting older his consultant wants to get his heart in the best possible condition to cope with getting older so they're trying to treat him aggressively. We saw a cardiologist just before Christmas & she wants him to go on Entresto but needs an echo first, last echo showed him to be moderate to severe HF. We're hopeful that his heart function has improved, if so they won't put him on Entresto so we just talked about what else is out there & dapagliflozin was mentioned but only in general, nothing in depth as it's not licensed yet.
I hope the echo is favourable for your husband. It is sometimes a bit of a wait and see in the development of drugs and devices for hf. Hopefully they can get things moving and also pass this newest medication for hf as an option with entresto. It sounds like you have a good cardiologist!
